Fallen Angel

Hi Moira, Enjoyed your review of 'Fallen Angel' and would like to comment. I noticed, again, how well you write and, also, how you get so much more from a movie than I do. I saw this one about 50 or 60 years ago and recall that Bickford beat up Cabot, the former playing a cop and the latter a murder...

Montgomery

Hi, Miss G. RE: Robert Montgomery. Who, I consider, the most underrated actor in movie history, spoke in what I think of as a terse ( maybe ' clipped' is a more fitting word ) manner. I read a review of 'Here Comes Mr. Jordan' which said that he used a Bronx accent in that film. I never noticed alth...

brest films

Chris, It would, likely, take up too much time and space but it would be very interesting and enlightening to have posts ( very brief, of course ) explaining WHY someone picked a certain movie, I mean what they liked about it. Might require another thread. .... mel

accents

I'm glad there won't be a quiz 'cause I got lost way back there. When I hear Walter Matteau or Lee Grant speak, i think right away, New York. I haven't been in NYC for 35 years. I haven't lived there since before the war and my hearing has deteriorated, but I still recognize that ...what, accent, in...

Chris. I got the dates in, of course, there would be more than one use of a title; guess I wasn't thinking. I made a sustitution also. Tintypes doesn't have a date so I assumed it was not a movie but a tv pgm. but such a good one. In going over my list, I noticed I didn't include 'Fantasia', unbelie...

accents

Hi, John. You lost me. I think ( not sure ) I understand the subtle difference between 'Voice' and 'accent' in Hagen's case but not the others. To me, March spoke with a definite brogue, Steiger with a southern accent and Blaine with an accent peculiar to certain New Yorkers. I think that using an a...

What's your opinion about actors who used different accents to fit the part they were playing, good or bad? As for the good ( great ) ones" Rod Steiger, 'In the Heat of the Night'......Fredric March, 'the Iceman Cometh' ......Jean Hagen, 'Singing in the Rain' ......Vivian Blaine, 'Guys and Doll...

Tony Martin

Hi, Moraldo. I was glad to hear that Martin and Charisse are still around, Good for them. I recall, he sang 'When Did You Leave Heaven' in 'Sing, Baby, Sing (1936 ) It may have been his first speaking part, I'm not sure. Previously, he sang 'When I'm With You' in 'Poor Little Rich Girl' but I don't ...

Feaito. You picked some very good ones. 'Brief Encounter' has to be on my list, too. I liked. 'Dodsworth', 'Sierra Madre', 'Lady Killers' and 'Alice Adams' I, also, like your taste in movies, It's going to be very difficult paring down to 25. ......mel

Chris, I'll vote for Karloff. I thought he gave an award deserving performance in 'The Lost Patrol'. He was, also, very competent in other different types of parts, as in the movie where Danny Kaye played Walter Mitty.,,,,mel
