pktrekgirl, is there one particular book about Valentino that you would recommend?

I don't really know much about Valentino apart from the Latin Lover image. The only film of his that I've seen is Beyond the Rocks.

What is it about Valentino that attracts you?

Merv Griffin

I was shocked to hear the news of Merv Griffin's passing. I remember reading a short interview with him in Vanity Fair magazine last year. There was a wonderful photo of him in a white terrycloth robe out by his pool. I used to LOVE watching his talk show after school. My friends and I would always ...

Mongo, thank you for the post about stellabluegirl's death. How very sad. I had no idea that she had been ill. I do remember her fondly.

Harper Lee

Thanks for the link to the photo of Harper Lee! She looks well and happy, even though it looks like she is sitting in a wheelchair.

Yep, I only buy the name brand dvd-r discs after getting burned by buying a cheaper brand--Windata. I have had great results with Sony, Memorex, and Fuji blank discs. I've not tried transfering anything from vhs to dvd. I just try to catch stuff on TCM and record from tv. I've noticed that recording...

sugarpuss, I am also disturbed by the extremely misogynistic bent of the torture porn films. Torturing a woman so that she will have sex with a guy? HUH? I don't get the appeal. I would consider some of Shyamalan's films to be horror, especially The Sixth Sense , which is a really good ghost story. ...

Hubby and I were just lamenting about this current trend in horror films the other day. I don't usually watch horror films, but my husband loves them. He calls this newest crop of films like Saw, Hostel, Captivity, etc., "torture porn." I don't know if he made up that phrase himself or if ...

Hmm...Marco, I'll take your word for it that Ball and Skelton work well together in duBarry. Honestly, I haven't seen the film in a long time, so I don't even remember the scene on bed that you mentioned. I completely agree about Kelly being wasted in that role. Really didn't exploit his talents at ...

Marco, thank you for the clip from Baby Doe!! Moira, thanks for the kind words. Summer is the busiest time of year for me. I am the camp director for 2 drama camps--one is a musical theatre camp with 94 students and the other is an acting camp for high school students with only 18 campers. I also ch...

Larry, thank you for the lovely explanation about Sts. Constantine and Helen!

Constantinople was the first seat of the church. Named after the same Constantine?

I am currently reading the 6th Harry Potter book. I've read the whole series before; I thought it would be fun to go back and re-read the series before the final one comes out this month. I know that they are technically children's lit, but I really think that they are exceptionally well-written. An...

I was so saddened to hear the news of Beverly Sills' passing. Many years ago, I read her autobiography, Bubbles, and I loved it. And it made me love HER. She was genuine, as Mongo said, and seemed to have a wonderful sense of humor. The only anecdote that I recall from the book is one that always ma...

I saw a groomsman faint at a friend's wedding. He must've locked his knees! Seriously, it was a summer wedding in a non-air-conditioned Greek Orthodox church. The Orthodox service is quite long and I think the heat did him in. I don't remember him falling forwards OR backwards--he just kind of...

Yeah, what is the deal with DuBarry? It looks great, but just doesn't hold together. Red Skelton and Gene Kelly don't belong in a film together. Gene was better with comedian Phil Silvers. Red doesn't mesh well with the other "Red", either.
