Re: The Royals!

As a point of English law, interestingly though scarily, Diana and James Hewitt were committing treason (assuming their relationship did exist), and at that point the death penalty was still in force for treason (the only crime under English law where there was a death penalty since I think 1965). I...

Maverick

I hope it is okay to start a new thread. I searched and could not find one. I have just been watching the new DVD's of the second season of Maverick and wondered if anyone else had seen them. Season one was pretty good but the second season was really brilliant. Its amazing despite not very good pro...

Re: Good Horse Racing Movies?

PHAR LAP is another good one, and there's a link between this horse and Seabiscuit. Phar Lap's jockey Billy Elliott gave his saddle to George Woolf, the rider who subbed for the injured Red Pollard on Seabiscuit. Woolf used the saddle from then on, except for his very last race. In that race, Woolf...

Re: John Ford

That is an interesting article. I can't help wondering if in 60 years time, Tarantino films will be examined and judged on levels of inappropriate violence by a future age who do not see stylised violence in the same way many movie goers do now. Funnily when I was at Monument Valley last year stayin...

Re: *CANDIDS*

Noble Johnson was also the "young" Indian leader in She Wore Yellow Ribbon. Considering he was in his late sixties at the time it was interesting casting.

Re: Just a few facts Mam

I think the problem with creating more westerns is a number of things. One is practicalities about cost. In the old days they had large companies that could supply costumes, vehicles and movie trained horses that could be guaranteed not to kill your million dollar super star actors and hold up produ...

Re: Wagon Train on the Encore Western Channel

That's one of the strongest elements of the series. And SO John Ford! Like Captain Brittles and Quincannon. Marty and Mose. What are these guys babbling about now? I know its my Ford fixation but when you think of how successful many of his stock company were, its hard to underestimate Ford's influ...

Paula

I am not sure that fan page does justice to what you have got on your site because it is so m ucg more than that. Archive or historical record perhaps.

I do know that after I got hooked on Ford films again, particularly Wagon Master finding your site was all my birthdays come at once.

Re: Wagon Train on the Encore Western Channel

I am glad there are other people here who enjoy Wagon Train. It was fun reading this thread. The sixth season is out on DVD now so I have had some time over Easter to watch it. I know it was the season that caused some changes because both Ward Bond and Robert Horton were no longer there but I am fi...

Re: Red River

Have you seen Harry Carey Sr. and Wayne together in THE SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS? they are so good together in that one too. MissGoddess clued me in on it, it's a wonderful film. I have seen it. In many ways a very unusual film for John Wayne but I suppose he was not really John Wayne the icon Beautif...

Re: Red River

I was thinking when I saw this list I wonder if anyone else loves Angel and the Badman as much as me. One of my favourite films, let alone western Harry Carey Senior as the marshall is one of the best characters ever. The curly haired wolf. All his gestures, scratching his chin, the blowing of smoke...

Re: Red River

Can someone speak to Stanwyck & Taylor? They had a ranch and owned horses as well. I hope its okay for me to keep answering things about horses especially in this thread. Barbara Stanwyck was pretty good and she did alot of her own riding on screen. Robert Taylor was also very good, at least go...
