Joe

Nita Naldi is attrubuted to be April 1. Probably born in late March, it's very fuzzy with her, no birth record has been found yet. She was a big fibber, too, every chance she got! Not merely with regard to her birthdate/place, either. :D

Re: Pride and Prejudice

Colin Firth is an added attraction to the 1995 version  I do love the 1995 version and have a great deal of sentiment for the 1940 film with Greer Garson (who was so wonderful as Elizabeth, many good zingers with aplomb). I was unable to work my way through the Keira Knightly version. Really,...

Re: Barbara Walters ends her Oscar Specials

As much as I adore Meryl Streep, I will be shocked if she wins this year. I did love the film though, at least the parts with Julia!

The 1927 film is excellent. Saw it at The Castro and it played beautifully. I anxiously await the DVD, thanks to our friends at Flicker Alley.

Re: Robert Osborne at home

In watching TCM last night, the promo for the TCM DVD/Movie guide, it looks like that may have been filmed in his apartment. If not, it was gorgeous.

Re: The great Jean Simmons RIP

Well, Robert Osborne was great in between the films shown last evening. Unfortunately for me, I'd never seen Elmer Gantry and I got a telephone call from a friend in need right as it started and I missed most of the film. :-( I need to see if it will be on again during the Oscar month as I really wa...

Re: Shadows of Russia Series: Wed. in Jan. 2010

I giggled my way through Eve's characterization of the "hero of the people" this morning at breakfast too. She was priceless. I love the parts when for no good reason, Eve just bursts into a dance with her rifle as her dancing partner! Re: Helen Hayes' work in My Son John I usually expect...

Re: My Son John & I Was a Communist For the FBI

Re: My Son John & I Was a Communist For the FBI I came in part way through My Son John and was appalled by really (IMO) dreadful performance by the First Lady of the American Theateh. Just wrong, wrong, wrong. Might have worked in 1952, but she sure did not work for me in 2010. I wanted to just...

Re: 84 CHARRING CROSS ROAD

Mrsl, one of my favorite films of all time, any time frame. I could not have said it better. Anne Bancroft is so wonderful in this film. So is Antony Hopkins, of course. It's a wonderful, wonderful film and makes me want to book a flight to London so I can go hunt for used books (one of my favorite ...
