Jon: We got an email from the family that their children are fine. I usually listen to Ron too and he makes quite a convincing case about the futility of most gun laws. Look at all the good the restrictive laws in DC has got them. I really like Ron, even though I disagree with him about half the ti...

Actually, I think the movies of "The Godfather" are far superior to the books. Puzo could plot, but he couldn't write his way out of a paper bag. His clumsy prose style renders him nearly unreadable for me.

This is embarrassing to admit, but I read nearly all the Nancy Drew books that were available in the 30s and 40s. My mom had them all from her youth, and when I was a kid I was an incredibly voracious reader to the point where it was simply impossible to keep me in material. Once i was done with Har...

It's been a while since I watched it, but I'm pretty sure it's even more explicit. I'll have to dig that out and rewatch it, if I think I can stand watching a Ricardo Cortez movie where the director doesn't have enough respect for the audience to have some dame knock him off.

Smallville. I've been managing to break my addiction to "America's Next Top Model" though.

However, she had a very nice screen presence, and was attractive to look at. She radiated a pleasant image, but I don't think she would have gotten as far as she did if she weren't married to what's his name. I love Ruby. Her lack of real talent was part of her charm. I'm with moira here -- it's di...

He was Uncle Fester in the original Addams Family.

Determined people and criminals are not going to care about gun laws. It's a horrible tragedy. I have an acquaintance from my church that has a daughter at V Tech. (No word yet on her) but gun control laws won't fix this. I sincerely hope your friend's daughter is ok. For what it's worth I agree wi...

^ Hey! That's great, Jon! I know how much you love Kevin Brownlow! Great that you found that book...and no doubt for a great price as well! Well done! Amazon sellers have it from $14 to $47, and I paid $10, so yeah, that was a decent price. Which brings me to one of the things about Amazon (and eba...

If we can take "The Searchers" (which is probably the best western that ever has been or will be made) out of the equation, I find it's actually more of a toss-up. I really like the Mann-Stewart westerns a lot, and find them overall more mature viewing than even the Ford-Waynes made a few ...

I don't disagree with anything you said. But as Chris pointed out in the Olberman/O'reilly thread (proving again that he is at least as wise and diplomatic as he is wrong :)) those guys are pundits. Their job is to give opinions. If people are getting their news from pundits on the left or the right...

For the record, I hated "Friends" and never "got" "Seinfeld." I understand I'm in the minority but George just dorve me up a wall. All your classic choices are good. I've bought the seasons of "The Bob Newhart Show" that have come out on DVD. "Friends&qu...

Re: Pew Survey

Because a true journalist tries to record the facts - ALL of the facts. Not just the ones that are favorable to one side. And certainly not with the level of editorializing that even the REPORTERS do on that channel. That's actually something I appreciate about Fox News. I used to be a journalist i...
