Re: Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger films
Red River, I didn't know that you loved "I know where I'm going (1945)." I agree about "I know where I'm going (1945)" being the best work of Powell and Pressburger.

Re: Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger films
Thanks, Jack Favell. Through her journey, Joan (Wendy) sees the happy married life of old man and old man. They are poor. But they have been happily married for 60 years. Interesting touches like these make the people watch the film again and again.

Re: ALFRED HITCHCOCK
Here is my review for The Trouble with Harry. But it contains SPOILERS. "What seems to be the trouble, Captain?" This line was Hitchcock favorite line out of all lines in his films. I think this line explains the entire film of The Trouble with Harry. People were expecting a realistic stor...

Re: ALFRED HITCHCOCK
Even Hitchcock's lesser efforts are far more stronger than powerful efforts of many directors out there. I highly recommend Waltzes from Vienna. Its available here for free. This is because the film is in public domain. http://archive.org/details/Waltzes_from_Vienna It has Jessie Matthews, Edmund Gw...

Re: Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger films
SPOILERS Here is my review for I know where I'm Going (1945). But it contains spoilers. At Imdb forum, I remember reading about some people not liking I know where I'm Going (1945). But I think its a great film, because of several reasons. Its a film that we need to explore much into. Wendy Hiller's...

Re: ALFRED HITCHCOCK
I agree with you, Kingme. Jackfavell, I believe it was the studio forced Hitchcock to cast Paul Newman for Professor Armstrong. Hitchcock wanted Anthony Perkins for Professor Armstrong. I think Anthony Perkins and Julie Andrews would have made a great pairing. With Rebecca, I think it has both myste...

Re: ALFRED HITCHCOCK
Cinemaven, Don't forget Jane Wyman in Stage Fright.
What do you all think about Hitchcock's The Trouble with Harry? I think this film has a beautiful cinematography. I also get the humor that goes in the film.

Kingme,
Can you list the names of the films that you love from Powell and Pressburger? Its always great to read about the appreciation of these films. Mine are I know Where I'm Going and Black Narcissus. But I do like other Powell and Pressburger films.

Re: Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger films
I got a chance to see "I know where I'm going (1945)". I liked it a lot. I think it is best Powell-Pressburger I have seen. The effort they put in this film is brilliant.

Re: ALFRED HITCHCOCK
I think there is an interesting degree of suspense in The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep, because we don't know the level of danger Bogart's character is in. For Example, Sam Spade's partner gets killed in the beginning of The Maltese Falcon. So we learn that it is a dangerous investigation journe...

Re: ALFRED HITCHCOCK
MissG, I also want to point out that Hitchcock's Waltzes from Vienna is a musical. Not a thriller. But a very good one with interesting Hitchcock touches in it. Its Hitchcock's only musical film. When you mentioned about great deal of charm, it immediately reminded me of Stage Fright. After several ...

Re: ALFRED HITCHCOCK
Thanks, Miss G. Hitchcock wanted to use this idea of Sabotage again in Torn Curtain. But the studio disagreed with him. MissG, I highly recommend Hitchcock's Waltzes from Vienna if you haven't seen it. Its available for free now, because it is in public domain. Along with Sabotage, It is one of my f...

Re: ALFRED HITCHCOCK
I liked Hitchcock's British films especially Sabotage (1936) and Waltzes from Vienna (1934), because of the interesting touches Hitchcock put in these films. The interesting thing is we can only identify them after repeated viewings. A Similar touch was used in Topaz. But due to the lack of time Hit...
