Re: Noir Alley on TCM

31 days of movies I've seen many times. But who am I to criticize tradition?

Re: Noir Alley

"In his outro Eddie mentioned Noir Alley will be off for the next two months."

Replaced by continuous Oscar winning films again?

Re: I Just Watched...

I just watched The Curse of Nostradamus (1960), but I'm distracted at the moment, having just discovered that the Academy Museum in Los Angeles presented nearly a month of Mexican horror in October 2022, and I didn't know about it! And the image they chose to represent the entire festival was the v...

Re: Noir Alley

Thunder Road: the bootleggers meeting needed trimming. It went on too long. The night time driving scenes looked like day for night photography. Overall, TR needed another moonshine run. Mitchum was spot-on in the role and carries the entire movie. The actress who played their mother was perfect. Hi...

Re: Noir Alley

That poster of Thunder Road is hideous. That's supposed to be Mitchum?

In the "Why didn't I know that?" department, I just learned that his sister Julie Mitchum was an actress and played the newspaper reporter in the original House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price.

Re: Noir Alley

I've seen Thunder Road a few times. A good movie but it's a six-lane stretch to call it a noir. As Eddie Muller has said before, he sometimes selects movies that stretch the noir definition and may not even be noir. That is why it is informative to listen to his intros and outros. Having seen Thund...

Re: Noir Alley

Blast of Silence is the grittiest, grimiest neo-noir of them all. You could almost smell the stench of the trash-filled streets.

Re: Noir Alley

I'd love to see more foreign noirs on the Alley except most viewers don't seem to get past the captions, based on the comments I've read. I've found lots of very good French, British, Japanese and German noirs elsewhere.

Re: Noir Alley

I skipped both Noir Alleys the past two weeks and watched some longtime favorites. One of them was Phantom Lady. Ella Raines was some good looking dame, see? The crazed scene with Raines and Elisha Cook Jr at the jam session is one of the greatest moments in film noir history. Fantastic camera movem...

Re: Noir Alley on TCM

Hilarious film with a good femme fatale. The kind of film that Mystery Science Theater 2000 goofs on. Sheldon Leonard made a great decision quitting acting and becoming a producer. Aaah, c'mon now, JE. I've always liked Sheldon, and especially liked him in this film. I thought he carried off the &q...

Re: See Jayne Act: The Burglar (1957)

This is a film worth repeated viewings. It never got much love. Gritty and shabby, shot in a semi-documentary way at times, with a beat-up, worn-out looking cast (except for young, fresh Jayne); crooked losers that were running on empty to make a last score. The European film The Burglars by Henri V...

He'll turn it into Sundance and IFC which originally were interesting channels that now program 2 and a Half Men marathons.
