Re: Coming up on TCM...

I found this in a review for the VHS version of Bugsy Malone : "The film was released in late 1976 to positive reviews. It currently holds a score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the positive critical reception, Bugsy Malone was not a commercial success in the US, bringing in just over $2.7 ...

I couldn't find a spot with a general link, but here's one for April:

It appears that YouTube has a pretty good print of The Gun Runners (1958), so we can check it out there.

Re: Streaming on Criterion in April.

It sounds like the Criterion streaming app could use the equivalent of an 'info' button that would show you the title of the film that is currently playing. Here's a link for the possibility that Disney may follow suit with dedicated channels: https://www.engadget.com/disney-may-add-cable-style-stre...

Re: April 2024 Schedule Posted, Marlon Brando is SOTM

The channel itself seems to take advantage of windows of opportunities. I recall that in the early 2010s, they kept premiering all sorts of 20th Century Fox films, some only once, but others they repeated a lot within a small period. Prime of Miss Jean Brodie was one of those frequent repeaters, bu...

Re: April 2024 Schedule Posted, Marlon Brando is SOTM

The Great Race was just on April 7th. It is on now. Why? The first showing this month was for a Tony Curtis theme, today's theme is the 100th birthday of Henry Mancini, who did the score. The one I've noticed is Singin' in the Rain , which has already been shown on TCM 5 times this year. This month...

Re: Noir Alley

Thanks to James for the reference, I was not aware of The Gun Runners either. Has been on TCM a few times before, last in 2015, not on Noir Alley (yet). This week on Noir Alley is the third-time! showing of the Lawrence Tierney - Claire Trevor film Born to Kill (1947). No doubt you've seen it.

Re: Noir Alley

Did anyone else catch the Eddie Muller/Robert Osborne intro to The Breaking Point ? Couldn't stop watching the whole film again. Yes, I loved the discussion that Robert and Eddie had before and after the film, both making interesting points. The film is amazing and a worthy choice for TCM's 30th an...

Re: Coming up on TCM...

As you can see in the clip, Dave and Alexa were joking that there were no internet film references so they had to use books as a source of information, and pointed to a book on the coffee table. However, they never identifed what the example book was. Does anyone have any idea what this book might b...

Re: Noir Alley

The Noir Alley selection for this weekend is The Breaking Point (1950). The late Saturday Noir Alley is also the beginning of a 24-hour salute to TCM's 30th Anniversary, when TCM will be featuring Robert Osborne introductions for each film. Accordingly, Noir Alley will include an introduction for Th...

Re: April 2024 Schedule Posted, Marlon Brando is SOTM

TCM has updated the schedule to indicate they will be showing the extended 'Redux' version of Apocalypse Now at 8 PM on the 24th, which has a run time of something like 202 minutes. This has pushed back the start time of The Men (1950) to 11:30 PM. Apocaplypse Now Redux is something of a premiere fo...

Re: Frank Borzage season of restored films at MOMA

Okay, so this probably explains why the Circle was on yesterday. I didn’t notice if it were a restoration or anything. The Circle (1925) is one of the films that is also scheduled for the Frank Borzage Special Theme in May. TCM has been showing a nice print for several years now. It could be cleane...

Re: Coming up on TCM...

Also, the one where someone says "Damn good actress." (I'm not sure who that comment was referring to.) The “damn good actress” phrase comes at the end of the introduction to the TCM "Word of Mouth" segments (an earlier version). Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch...
