Re: Noir Alley

I wish I could enjoy BORN TO KILL because, well, let's face it, who really doesn't love Laurence Tierney, Claire Trevor, Elisha Cook, Jr. and director Robert Wise. But I just can't get excited or engaged in any way -- the whole thing for me is flat, hollow, unsubtle, and, considering the subject ma...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Get out your handkerchiefs for ALL MINE TO GIVE this evening. I've said this before and I'll say it again -- Max Steiner's score will immediately make you break down and cry even before the credits roll. This is in keeping with the tribute to wonderful Glynis Johns who we recently lost. I only wish...

Re: NOW PLAYING (100 YEARS AGO)

The Estate of Mable Forrest is reportedly ecstatic that the movie has been labelled "presumed lost" for obvious reasons and some have sued to have it changed to "totally lost" status though an insider note has suggested that they are having second thoughts about that. There is a ...

Re: NOW PLAYING (100 YEARS AGO)

The reviewer of that execrably scathing review of Miss Forrest ought to be named for posterity. She might be as bad as all that but she nevertheless needs a name so that her ancestors can have a target for retribution or even revenge. On the other hand, the wordage is one of the most brilliant and ...

Made me feel positively embryonic.

Re: Monkey Man and the Evolution of Dev Patel

Great review but TMI in my view. I doubt I would want to watch it, it's spoiled. It's rare that I pick on Swithin, he is worlds above me. And I am always intent on knowing as little as possible about a film, tabula rasa for me, if possible (rare). I may not know what's going on early, with some dif...

Re: Streaming on Criterion in April.

I will probably blow it off. You see a movie in progress and you know not the title. You have grow in your mind a quantity of half seen movies of which the titles you may never know. Gosh, we might think of something later on, yeah a few good scenes, I wonder what the movie was. The CC is too cute w...

Re: Streaming on Criterion in April.

I caught the ending credits of a film. They lasted forever but I stuck to the patience point. Following was "The Cat" a Japanese horror/comedy as I gather. I didn't watch long. //
