Re: Noir Alley

Just watched VIOLENCE and Eddie was right. It wasn't a great movie. The storyline was at least interesting from a historical standpoint. Apparently, post WWII America wasn't as rosey as many thought.

Re: Noir Alley

I think people who forget to watch Noir Alley should have their trench coat, fedora, gun, cigs, rotgut whiskey, and flashbacks confiscated. :smiley_shades: I have all those items except the gun is a plastic toy. I was posing as Bogart at a Halloween party a few years back. Also, the whisky is singl...

Re: Noir Alley

I really enjoyed LE SAMURAI. Foreign films usually don't excite me, but this one was so well done I'll probably watch it again. Alain Delon was fantastic. I had to really think about the ending as I was confused at first. Once I thought about the fake quote of the Samurai Code it made sense. Anyway,...

Re: Noir Alley

Being a NC resident, I liked that the story takes place here. However, I had a little trouble with the logistics too. I think sometimes one has to just ignore things that are not plausible in the story line. It is hard to fathom that the husband was in Knoxville one night and was back home in Clarks...

Re: Noir Alley

I have mixed feelings about remakes. IMHO THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH with James Stewart and Doris Day was the best. I wasn't that wild about THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL or WEST SIDE STORY. THE BIG SLEEP with Robert Mitchum was pretty good. Also, I'm glad to see the fad of making movies out of old T...

Re: Noir Alley

I agree with Jamesjazzguitar. The original was much better. However, they stayed true to the storyline. It was interesting seeing all the "before they were stars" actors in bit parts.

Re: Noir Alley

I thought it was just OK. Unlike some it did remind me of THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE. It was nice to hear Hugo's story. He did a lot with very little money.

Re: Noir Alley

I get TCM through Hulu and I couldn't access BEWARE MY LOVELY. I called Hulu and there was a rights issue that prevented them from showing it. This is the first time this has happened. My guess is it may happen again. Anyway, I was disappointed as it looked like it was going to be a decent noir. Has...

Re: Noir Alley

I enjoyed IMPACT. It's a great story line. There were good performances by all the actors. I t always amazes me how different things were back in the late 40s and early 50s. Imagine if something like that happened today. With the internet and social media it would be almost impossible for someone to...

Re: Noir Alley

Did anyone notice that a young Barbara Billingsly had a bit part as the secretary of the editor of the paper? She tried to get the editor to take a phone call from one of the hostages.

Well, Eddie returned with a good one. We can always count on Barbara Stanwyck for a great performance.

HBO's Perry Mason

Sorry, if this has been discussed elsewhere. I'm really enjoying this series. Obviously it's quite a departure from the Raymond Burr series in the late 50s and early 60s. I'm almost finished with season two and hoping there will be a season three. It has a CHINATOWN feel and the acting is superb. I'...

Re: Noir Alley on TCM

Just as an FYI, I've found some great noirs streaming on Prime. One has to pay for some of them, but many are free with a Prime membership. Also, the MOVIES network shows film noirs on Thursdays. I usually record them so I can fast-forward through the commercials. I'll miss Eddie's comments, but as ...
