Ok Klondike, as you seem to be the resident expert on Hibernian cuisine, I need to know if you have a good recipe for 'Scotch Eggs', or 'breakfast in a ball' as my grandmother called them. Haven't had one for years. The British are not known for their cuisine, but anyone who has visited any part of ...

Thank you for your kind thoughts gentlemen. Wrapped up in my own troubles, I had forgotten it was Veterans day. Regardless of your views of the various conflicts around the globe that America is involved in, and the ‘politics by other means’ of governments, we can take pride, and give thanks to the ...

Sorry to put a damper on the party, but a trouble shared is a trouble halved (or something like that). Well, the crappy economy is finally begining to hit close to home. The company for whom I work has just laid off fifty people. The rest of us are having our hours cut from 40 to 32 hours a week. Ne...

'Heaven's Gate (1981)', december 30th.

Haven't seen this movie since it's first release, so I don't remember much about it (except being bored by it). Maybe it has some redeeming quality that I missed the first time around. I'll give it another chance.

Regards

Corporate interpretation of phrases like ‘Free Market’ and ‘Global Economy’ is entirely different from the way you or I, or most economists understand them. The corporate view can be summed up simply as ‘Profits. By any means necessary.’ The Bush administrations part in all this seems to be their po...

I'll drink to that. Make mine Glenfiddich. Opening scene from one of the best movies ever made 'Tunes Of Glory' . The tune is Black Bear (I think). It’s been years since I saw ‘Blow-Up’. Not since I was a teenager anyway. I didn’t like it, and thought it was quite boring. Maybe it was my youth, inexperience and ignorance that caused me to miss the point of the film. I shall have to watch it again through the eyes of maturity and experience (bif...

Hey! Hold on a minute Klondike. Don’t come in here throwing facts, statistics and historical context around like confetti, especially since I don’t have any to throw back, that’s just dirty pool. My grandfather on my mothers side was from County Mayo. My grandmother was from Armagh (pre partition). ...

Dear Bryce. I think you are suffering from a case of pre-election malaise exacerbated by the current financial crisis. My advice to you – if you desire true freedom and spiritual peace – is to remove all your clothes and run naked through the Hampton Inn corporate offices, Shouting “I AM NOT A NUMBE...

Dear Stuart, thanks for mentioning Rita Tushingham and ‘A Taste Of Honey’. One of my favorite movies of all time. A heartbreaking movie in many ways. A movie about very ordinary real people with real life problems. Tony Richardson makes it work perfectly, and Rita Tushingham was wonderful. I also ha...

Dear knitwit45, you sound like my youngest daughter. She inherited her straight brown hair from me, and she hates it. She now considers her hair simply as a canvas for her imagination. Over the past year or so she has turned up with her hair dyed in various colors, anything from jet black to floures...

Hello Hollis, nice to talk to you again. I googled for Greer Garson and all the color pictures of her do indeed show her with red hair. The belief that Irish people are generally red haired is a bit of a Hollywood myth. In Ireland – and the British isles in general – only about 5% to 10% of the popu...

You're out of Lux

Hello MelWalton, nice to speak to you again. I enjoy movie trivia and would like to see this trivia forum back up on it's legs. Thanks for trying. I'll help where I can. As for your question, I vaguely remember hearing it somewhere, but can't remember the movie. It sounds like something Groucho Marx...
