Re: *CANDIDS*

Joe Belated birthday greetings from the U K - keep up the good work - I cannot praise you highly enough for this thread - and appreciate all the time and effort in keeping it going. Sad to see Diane Cilento has just passed away - just after her birthday too. regards again from the South of England B...

Re: Amanda Knox - Back Home in Emerald City

Thank you "CharlieChaplinfan" - since finding this site it is my first port of call every day - particularly the "people in films" thread by Mongo - that thread really is a gem - I'm seeing pictures of movie stars of the past that I've never seen - or even heard of before. And mo...

Re: Amanda Knox - Back Home in Emerald City

Whilst I agree with all the previous comments - it is a sad fact that quite a few "guilty" persons are getting away scot free because the prosecution bodges up a vital part of the case - which creates an element of doubt. This is happening now everywhere. I hope Amanda IS innocent - the th...

Criminals in films

I believe that at least in the 40's the "mob" had its foot in the door of Hollywood and also ran the unions - also that Ben Siegel wanted to act - but did any mobsters actually get parts in films and did Siegel take any part in a film ?

Re: *CANDIDS*

Is Gloria Blondell - Joan Blondell's sister ?

In the picture from the film set - Glenn Ford looks just like a young Paul Muni

Re: *CANDIDS*

I'm with you "mrsl" - my first port of call every day is the "Candids" thread but it leaves me sad for all the stars that have passed on and makes me realise all the talent we have lost - and never to be replaced. There are very few today that draw me like the old stars - and the...

Re: Bad Guys

Hi Chris As a newcomer to this site I have only just come across your thread - as a youngster in the cinema western era I saw many cowboy films - probably too many to now recall - but my favourite "baddies" over the years have been - Lyle Bettger - Jack Palance and Lee Van Cleef - but top ...

Re: "Hahn" and "Kufferman"

Thank you Moira - I have been using Google to find information on these two but the references quoted on Google do not yield very much information about them. I do not think I am going to progress very much with my quest to discover any in depth information or photos about these two. thanks anyway -...

"Hahn" and "Kufferman"

In various books and articles I have come across the names of Nola Hahn and Mack Kufferman but cannot find out any more about their activities - does anyone have any information on these two - or know of any photos of them ?

Re: "Oscars"

Hi Larry I like the idea of that - saying "awarded to" instead of "the winner is" - has a better ring to it. When watching a star on film - acting the part - it is in some cases almost the only time you see them - so when given an "award" - their own personality comes o...

"Oscars"

This subject may have been covered somewhere before - if so I'm sorry to waste your time - if not - lets go!! I have watched highlights of many Oscar Ceremonies and end up cringing at some of the acceptance speeches - I'm not against Oscars - I think the idea of rewarding outstanding performances in...

Hi Mongo

On the first page of this thread is a photo of Sophia Loren and Jayne Mansfield together - do you know where this was taken ?

Re: William R "Billy" Wilkerson

Thanks Lynn I still find it strange that there are not more photos of Billy - at least from his Hollywood days - the Marilyn Monroe photo and the one by the airplane are a puzzle. It seems he didn't learn a lesson from mixing with "Bugsy" as he went into partnership (?) with Nola Hahn in o...

Re: Stan and Ollie

Only joined recently and had a chance to read this thread - so it's nice to read all the views on L & H - as a young lad my mother worked as an usherette in the "Theatre Royal" in Portsmouth, UK [ the one used in Ken Russells - The Boyfriend" ] so I had plenty of opportunity to se...

William R "Billy" Wilkerson

An interest in Las Vegas and its growth from the 1940's led me Billy Wilkerson and his involvement with Benny Siegel in the building of the Flamingo Hotel. This in turn led back to his days in Hollywood on the Hollywood Reporter and involvement in various cafes and restaurants - the Vendome - Trocad...
