Re: Happy Anniversary, SSO!

I miss this place. Once is awhile I come by. With Facebook we don't have near the discussions we had here and that is too bad. While we get the occasional interview I wish we were here. Even though I follow the group on Facebook, I also miss the discussions we had here - I prefer this type of inter...

Re: Welcome Scott O'Brien for a Q & A on Sylvia Sidney 12-17 & 12-18

Hi Scott - welcome back to the SSO. I had the pleasure of viewing AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY at The Pacific Film Archive and found the film most impressive - I prefer it to the remake. I am a fan of Phillips Holmes and his portrayal of Clyde, but Sylvia Sidney is the best of the leads in this. Can you tell...

Re: "Lost" Movies Found on YouTube

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to post a must see film - ANOTHER PART OF THE FOREST (1948). I had as yet never seen this film until I found it recently and I've watched it twice now! The "prequel" to THE LITTLE FOXES with Fredric March as the Hubbard patriarch. This film has never been ...

Re: Two Seconds

Robinson delivers some of the finest "pull no punches" acting I've ever seen. It's his best performance, even surpassing the resigned Christopher Cross in SCARLET STREET, and bull-headed Keyes in DOUBLE INDEMNITY. This small, no budget thriller is unforgettable. I agree with you Red - thi...

Oooo... Paramount! But those little yellow dots mean commercials, right? I can access my Youtube through Roku, and I have a hunch it may skip over the commercials - will see.

Thanks for sharing Lomm!

Mary's cowardice in not buying the contraceptive device will surely work out badly for Anna and Bates. How simple would it have been for her to just leave it in the hotel room, or toss it in the trash at the train station? But no, in addition to having Violet's butler just happen to be in Liverpool...

Re: Did anybody see the Tony Awards?

I watched some of the broadcast, but missed the beginning - I'll have to peruse YTB to find the bouncing Hugh Jackman opening number - he was terrific in the rest of what I saw of the program. Kind of sorry to see Audra McDonald pass by Angela Lansbury in total number of awards, even though I admire...

Re: Me-TV

Just noticed on today's lineup for COZI TV (sorry, not MeTV) they are running some mid 50's sitcoms this early evening; Life With Elizabeth with Betty White , followed by Private Secretary with Ann Sothern. I've never seen either of these, so will try to tune in.

According to Wikipedia, 100-year old dancer Marc Platt has died. Is this true? Yes, Nick ... He died on March 29th and I really do not know the nature of his death at all. He was a great friend of Rita Hayworth and appeared in two of Rita's films ... Tonight and Every Night (1945) as Tommy Lawson a...

Only Yesterday (1933) This was Margaret Sullavan`s debut movie, and what a great performance. Hi Fossy - glad you got to see this first film of Margaret Sullavan. Some of us discussed this film a while back, in case you're interested: http://silverscreenoasis.com/oasis3/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=591...

Re: 31 Days of Oscar 2014

The recent showing of It Started With Eve is the first Deanna Durbin movie I've ever seen, and it's easy to see why she was so popular. Whoa - seriously Kingrat?? Not even Three Smart Girls? OK - I have to admit that up until last year I had only seen 3SG and 100 Men and a Girl; so I can agree and ...
