Re: Our September Guest Star: Karen Burroughs Hannsberry

Hello Ms. Hannsberry. I'm CineMaven and I am a Noir Gal down to my DNA. Some of my fellow posters have mentioned some of my favorites (and you've responded) like Helen Walker and the beautifully fragile Gail Russell. I loved Hope Emerson in "Cry of the City." I have three points of interes...

Re: ANNE OF THE INDIES

Mr. Arkadin : “A Jacques Tourneur film I have not seen, but now long to see. Great post CM. You need to visit more often and stay for tea (or a cup of grog).” Keep the grog steeping. Moira : “This is great!! I definitely plan on watching Anne of the Indies on Hulu after reading your splendid overvi...

ANNE OF THE INDIES

"We put our hands to a bargain. To make my hand good, I've been spread eagle, flogged. I've called red-handed cut-throats, my friends. I've stood by and watched murders and worst...and that's not all. With daily and nightly prospects of the plank at my back, I crawled; made myself agreeable in...

Re: The Whistler Movies on TCM in October

I saw "FRAMED" on TCM and am Janis Carter's newest fan. ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0141681/ ) She made two "Whistler" movies: "The Power Of..." "The Mark Of..." I'm looking forward to seeing at least one of them this October. Along with another new discovery...

Re: Jennifer Jones Monday August 17th

Hi there Moira. How are you. Gulp! I think I came on like gangbusters. I guess I've been so blinded by her that I didn't realize that everyone was not a fan of Jennifer Jones. My eyes have been opened in that regard. And I've spent so long at TCM City that I also have to understand that folks here ...

Re: Jennifer Jones Monday August 17th

JDBL...I was joking when I said wrong.

Of course there is no right or wrong when it comes to what performers we connect with or not.

I was kidding.

Re: Framed (1947)

OMG!! I'm Johnny-Come-Lately again. I shall now put the Silver Screen Oasis on my favorites list BEFORE the TCM Message Board.

The write-ups on "FRAMED" were a marvelous read. Cinematography...character. Wow. The writing from all. WoW!

Re: Jennifer Jones Monday August 17th

Love her or hate her??? I love her! I have a confession. Well two confessions. I keep having to remind myself of the SilverScreen Oasis. Oasis is the operative word here. I must drill into my head that this place is where cooler heads prevail...serious (I should say meaningful) and fun film discussi...

Re: Virginia McKenna

Admittedly I have not seen many Virginia McKenna films (other than... "BORN FREE." ) I caught a glimpse of her during Dirk Bogarde's night on TCM. But I was watching Gwyneth Paltrow in "Sliding Doors" and I saw this older woman and her name immediately popped into my mind after n...

Re: Desert Fury (1947)

Thanxxx Moira for giving me a "pass" on that with the summertime alibi. At least this time it's not me being lazy. There's a summer school class LZCutter's running over at TCM City that I'm attending. We're talking about the ol' Grey Fox himself: Howard Hawks. Then there's a fast and furio...

Re: Desert Fury (1947)

How the heck did I miss THIS thread???!!! I think I might have something to contribute. Let me go through all of your comments thoroughly and carefully. This is one of my favorite movies and I'm a big-time fan of Lizabeth Scott fan.

Re: The White Dawn

Back in the 1970's I was going to see anything that TIMOTHY BOTTOMS appeared in. "The White Dawn" was one of them. And seeing a man of color in this setting was unusual and refreshing.

I enjoyed the movie immensely.

Re: Actors you watch, no matter what the film is about

Without going into all those recognizable classic film names...I'm going with Margaret Lindsay.
