Re: Ricardo Cortez Q & A with Dan Van Neste on 8-26 & 8-27

I'm sorry to have missed your online Q&A, but wanted to tell you how much I want to buy and read your book. I've always liked Cortez as an actor and thanks to TCM have been able to watch many of his films. He's best know playing cads, but he was so good playing good guys too. He has such powerfu...

Re: Joseph Egan Visits The Silver Screen Oasis Jan. 21 & 22

Mr. Egan, I wont be around this wknd. to take part. Wondered if I could post a question before your visit. I havent read your book yet, but I was under the impression the original diary was destroyed. Were all the purported excerpts just made up by the press? Did any part of the diary survive in evi...

Re: Welcome Scott O'Brien for a Q & A on Sylvia Sidney 12-17 & 12-18

I'm sorry I missed Scott's visit. I used to get e-mail notifications, but that has stopped for some reason. Scott, if you are still around, could you talk about Sylvia's final illness? That was my only disappointment in the book. You really didnt go into that except for saying she was having chemoth...

Re: Scott O'Brien to Visit on 10/25 & 10/26

Looking forward to reading your latest book, Scott. Especially since it's about GEORGE BRENT!!! I have a few questions: Did George have one big love in his life? (As he seemed to be catnip to the ladies) Were you able to dig up any new information on his relationship with Garbo? Did he ever talk abo...

Re: Welcome to Christina Rice, Our Guest Author on 11/17 & 11/18

I am looking forward to your book as I dont know much about Ann, and do think she deserves more recognition. Regarding her battles with Warner Bros., was she blacklisted in Hollywood after she left Warners in the 30s for a time? Did that factor in with her move to England?

Re: Mary Astor, SOTM??

Well, that's good news at least. (postponed till March) I was hoping she would still be scheduled rather than outright cancelled........I get so tired of the same stars being repeated as SOTMs when they are shown so much throughout the year anyway (nothing against Joan)...So many stars are still wai...

Mary Astor, SOTM??

I thought I read on here a month or so ago that Mary Astor was going to be Jan.'s SOTM. Now today I found out it's going to be Joan Crawford! What happened? I am very disappointed. Joan has been SOTM many times. Mary is still waiting.......

Re: The Silver Screen Oasis Welcomes Monika Henreid!

Thanks for the link to the estate. I've read a lot about it over the years. I've read a little about the murder too. It's lucky it's been preserved and open to the public. (had it not, I'm sure some developer would've torn it down!)

Re: The Silver Screen Oasis Welcomes Monika Henreid!

What was it like being directed by your father in Dead Ringer? Did you act in any other films? Bette really put you through your paces (as a character) ordering you around in that. I read that much of the film was filmed at the Doheny estate? Any anecdotes you could tell us from that film shoot? Tha...

Re: Welcome To Scott O'Brien!

Do you have a favorite subject among the actresses you have written about so far? What would you say was the most difficult book to write and why? Thanks.

Re: Welcome To Scott O'Brien!

Scott, when doing your research are you able to view all the films your subject made? (at least those that "exist")? And how do you do that? I've often wondered how authors go about doing that. Particularly companies like Universal that don't seem to care about their 20s and 30s Paramount ...

Re: Welcome To Scott O'Brien!

Thank you, Rita! Thanks. I'm looking forward to reading the book. I wish TCM could swing the rights to some of Ruth's Paramount films for viewing. I've seen most of her WB output. I hope the book does well! Are you already thinking on a new biography or starting one? Good Idea Hibi ... And, welcome ...

Re: Welcome To Scott O'Brien!

Happy to hear you have a new book out Scott! I don't know a lot about Ruth, so I am sure I will enjoy reading about her like your other subjects. Could you tell us a little about her marriage to George Brent? I've always been curious about that. It was very brief. (I think less than a year). Thanks!
