Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

Just one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.

Re: Vote for Your Favorite Movie Quotes for the Banner

Glad to know changing the quote is not time consuming. I think 4-5 days sounds perfect.

Bet it takes more than a minute to change the photos banner!

Re: Vote for Your Favorite Film Figures for the Banner

More great ideas keep coming. I especially like the idea of themes, and Halloween deserves to be the first of the themes.

Allow me to I suggest that it include Lon Chaney unmasked as The Phantom of the Opera. One of the most iconic shots in all cinema.

Re: Vote for Your Favorite Movie Quotes for the Banner

Clearly, this is going to be a lot of fun. Some great suggestions already, and today's gem is a prime example. Be sure to include the "in my drawers" gag real soon. I have no problem with daily, weekly or whatever changes. Maybe some others will respond with their thoughts. Also, I don't k...

Re: A New Tech Admin Joins the SSO

I can well believe it took a while to create, but we're all the beneficiaries of your efforts. It makes SSO really an impressive place to visit, and it should be fun seeing what ideas everyone comes up with for quotes and photos. Thank you.

"Lucky--have you seen Burns' The Dust Bowl (2012)?" Yes, Moira, I saw and greatly enjoyed it. I don't think I've missed any of his docs, and he's never disappointed. Even the Baseball doc was entertaining, and I'm not a fan of the national spurt. I do sincerely thank you for supplying the ...

Re: PBS

Ken Burns has never disappointed. This was true right from his "Civil War" masterpiece. I missed Prohibition (by a couple of years), and his documentary explained a lot I had always been puzzled about. I believe the Japanese have a way to honor master craftsmen. We should have a similar me...

Re: A New Tech Admin Joins the SSO

Thank you, Moira, for passing on this wonderful news. I am truly grateful for the chance to be first to thank Lomm for taking on this task. I have always wondered at the ability of anyone over the age of ten to understand and use the technical skills to best the internet at its own game! Welcome Lom...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

The listing for the local outlet definitely says: 1941! Of course, it wouldn't be the first mistake about a movie. (I remember an announcement for Prince of Players that advertised it as "The story of the man who shot President Lincoln.")

Let's all hope they got it right this time.

Re: Fellini's Roma (1972)

I'm with you, Moira. It was a masterwork from a master.

It's been more than forty years since I saw the film, but I doubt that I'll ever forget the sight of those wonderful frescoes disappearing before our eyes.

How many shots in how many movies can you say that about? Dam // rn few!

Re: College Profs on Film: Good, Bad or Just Ewwww?

Sounds like Dustin! Sounds like Lord Larry (Diane Lane said that is what they all called him when he tried to shake off the title, "Call me Larry.") By the way, there's a current thread about introductions of characters. Lord Larry certainly belongs on that list in this film. He's walking ...

Re: College Profs on Film: Good, Bad or Just Ewwww?

Olivier certainly deserved his reputation. I don't believe he ever gave a really bad performance, even in the get-money-for-the-kids films at the end of his career. I only got to see him on Broadway once. It was Mar. 25, 1961 (thanks, ibdb) and he was playing Becket to Anthony Quinn's Henry. (No, I ...

Re: *CANDIDS*

Love the clowning photo of Billy and Mona Freeman. She could certainly hold her own in the mugging department. Funny how you can tell instantly that Dickie Moore today is the same person as in the picture taken about 80 years ago. And he's still smiling, as well, although he rarely got a chance to s...
