Celia Johnson, a great Dame

She didn't make many films, but Celia Johnson made a handful of classics. she played the supportive stiff upper lip wife of naval Captain Noel Coward in In Which We Serve. She was brilliant as the young woman aging to middle-age In This Happy Breed with Robert Newton, in film about a so called worki...

Kay Walsh -Young To Middle Age Overnight

The former Mrs. David Lean played young women in the 40s to great effect, but despite the fact she was a beautiful girl, she more or less began playing middle-aged parts in her early 40s Kay like many other soon to be famous actress made at least one film with music hall all round entertainer George...

As Duke told Donna 'Hey you've got great legs!

i find myself comparing Marie Windsors nasty piece work in TATW to her more sympathetic role oppisite Duke in the much later Cahill United States Marshal

Greer Garson, a sexy Sir Harry Lauder

Sir Harry Lauder was a British music hall star from the 1890s through until the 1940s. his name is mentioned in Yankee Doodle Dandy at the dinner table where the Cochan's are lodging. he did make a short film for the war effort with Charlie Chaplin, but it isn't listed in the great mans list of movi...

i think of all the fils he directed, i think Trouble Along The Way is the biggest surprise. it is a most underratted film and Curtiz showed he could hold is own in Capra Romantic Comedy country

Flynn/De Havilland at their best as the Custer's

I know a lot of people will disagree with that assesment. Miss G will probably say Captain Blood as it's her favourite Flynn role and others will understanbly say The Adventures Of Robin Hood as it's the best film of its kind ever made. however, while i believe 'Robin' is a better film, i think They...

Michael Curtiz, a tyrant, but most versatile director

I would say if you judged who was the best director on versatilty, you'd be hard pushed to see passed Michael Curtiz. i wish i could say he was a nice guy, but from what i can gather he was a bit of a tyrant. however, Swasbucklers-Captain Blood, The Charge Of The Light Brigade, The Adventures Of Rob...

must say a word to about Hayley Mills. she's terrific, particulary in comdey situations, in her new series Wild At Hart, playing Amanda Holden's screen mum, in a series about a family on an African game farm. i just noticed recently one of it's themes is its four generation of women. Hayley's the gl...

Miss G I connect it to the African Queen because both films have it seems to me two virginal middle-aged woman who are sexually awakened by Bogie and Randy it's maybe a poor example, but remember how Donna Reed was so screwed up in Trouble Along The Way, because she was brought up by a single dad an...
