I love how 1940's Technicolor looks. This film is pretty much my favorite example of that. It's simply fantastic to look at. Gene Tierney is one of the most beautiful women ever, and this is her best performance, and one of my favorite performances. I am in awe of how she manages to maintain a level...

I recently have watched several Joan Blondell films, all of which I enjoyed. Alfred Green's Union Depot was probably the best of the bunch. It's fast, furious, fun Grand Hotel knockoff set in a Train Station. Blondell plays a down on her luck chorus girl trying to get the money for a ticket to Salt ...

Any movie that involves a Triad gang war gets a thumbs up from me. But when that Triad gang war is in a Buster Keaton film from 1928 that makes the film an instant classic. It's not my favorite Keaton, I like Steamboat Bill Jr. and The General more, but it's definitely one of his best, and most cons...

Yesterday I re-watched Mae West's " She Done Him Wrong " (1933), a very good Pre-Code; the print included in the new DVD release is quite good (and vastly superior than the one I had before, copied from an old TV airing) and the R. Osborne intro is always a plus. I still prefer " I'm...

Yes, I voted already. In Canada we do things strictly by the book.

Also, I like your avatar, Timothy Carey makes everything better.

Ann Dvorak is definitely underrated, she has such a unique presence it's unfortunate her peak was so short. I really like Miriam Hopkins, she's great in the Lubitsch films, as well as The Story of Temple Drake , I wish she got more recognition. Temple Drake really should be on DVD. I am currently wa...

I adore Cary Grant, he's my favorite actor. He's the epitome of cool, but at the same time was a fantastic comedian. I don't think we will see another like him, who can appear so effortless at everything he does. He's the one person in film that I want to know as little about as possible, simply bec...

I didn't really like it as I was watching it, it was slow and very dialogue heavy, but the more I thought about it, the more it stuck with me, and I started to realize that man this is a great film. I am looking forward to the Blu-Ray Criterion coming out in October. It might be enough reason for me...

Well I adore all the Katharine Hepburn-Cary Grant pairings. I love Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake in Sullivan's Travels , ditto McCrea and Colbert in The Palm Beach Story . Fredric March and Myrna Loy are great together in The Best Years of Our Lives and of course Myrna and William Powell are always ...

This is definitely my favorite noir film. I am a sucker for femme-fatales, and I love the complexity of Bart Tare.

There is just so much going on in this film, from the treatment of manhood in post war America, to the role of guns in society.

Plus it's just plain fun.

I can't stand Robin Williams' attempts to be funny. I actually like him in dramatic roles, but man he is probably the most unfunny person alive. If I could stab a movie it would be Mrs. Doubtfire. Eddie Bracken annoys the hell out of me too. He does his best to kill Miracle of Morgan's Creek , and c...

1. "42nd Street" from 42nd Street and "Forgotten Man" from Gold Diggers of 1933 bring tears to my eyes every time I watch them. Powerful commentaries on the sorrows of the world. 2. "Make 'em Laugh" from Singin' in the Rain is incredible. It's not merely the fact that s...

Ham and Eggs at the Front (1927)

Does anyone know if this film exists in any current form?

Of all the silent Myrna Loy films that I haven't seen this one piques my curiosity simply for the black-face element. Myrna in black-face is just something I think I should see.

Cagney is the kind of guy you want to be like, just cool and charismatic.

Robinson is pretty much on par with Cagney, but I never find myself wanting to be like him.

That's the difference to me.

This one is kind of tricky as only one of my 3 is pure comedy: 1. Holiday - Hepburn and Grant at the height of their powers. Not strictly a comedy, but I am in awe of the chemistry of the two leads. 2. Stage Door - Ginger Rogers is adorable and their is just too many good lines to count, from pretty...
