Thieves Highway
I really feel this is Dassin's best film (with BRUTE FORCE and RIFIFI following very close behind). One of the things I enjoy so much about THIEVES HIGHWAY is the unusual amount of respect screenwriter Bezzerides and director Dassin show Valentina Cortese's character; it's not every day that a lady ...

A thought
Hi Moira - Feel free to delete the thread. I suppose I'm still dealing with a bit of the negative residue that comes from doing battle over there. Thanks for putting it all so nicely!

Brian Aherne / THE LADY IN QUESTION
Moira - I blew it; I was in such a hurry when I left for school that I forgot to set the timer on my VCR. Consequently, no LADY IN QUESTION. However, I'm certain TCM will program it again in the near future! Btw, I had completely forgotten about that Twilight Zone episode with Mr. Aherne; thanks for...

The Killers - 1946 vs. 1964
I know that I'm in a minority here, but I really do prefer the 1964 Don Siegel version. Much as I admire Siodmak's film (largely from a phtographic standpoint), it really lags in the final stages, to the point where I ultimately drift off. Conversely, Siegel's film is swiftly paced and far more inte...

sexy noir dames / Jean Gillie
I'll nominate one who many fans are probably unfamiliar with: Jean Gillie. Ms. Gillie was an Australian-born actress who came to Hollywood in the late 40s, made a few films then, sadly, died. Her masterpiece is DECOY, a 1946 B-noir from Monogram Pictures, directed by her husband, Jack Bernhard. DECO...

Best US president?
Hi Ken -- Agreed that "Little Bush" is the worst. The best? My vote goes to Honest Abe Lincoln.

GONE WITH THE WINDBAG ??
It would now appear that It Who Shall Remain Nameless (as well as its various alter-ID's) may have been banned from the TCM message boards. Perhaps it is too soon to make this call, but all signs seem to point in this direction. For the sake of TCM, let us hope this is the case.

Hi Klondike et al -- nice to see all of you again! RE: A FACE IN THE CROWD, I think the film is probably every bit as effective now as it ever was, thanks largely to the uncompromising performances of everyone in the cast as well as Kazan's in your face direction. I first saw this on TV in the late ...

Hi Arkadin, nice to see you again! With respect to AFFAIR IN TRINIDAD, I can only say that I hope you feel it was worth the wait. Visually the film is impressively rich and the presence of its two magnetic stars helps considerably. In some rather obvious ways it is reminiscent of GILDA but without t...
