I just read Karl Brown's book Adventures with DW Griffith. It looked quite a formidable tome, very small writing with the text packed tightly into each page. I braced myself for a hard read, I couldn't have been further from the truth. Karl Brown has a writing style all of his own that completely w...

Does anyone recollect Ona Munson in any role other than Belle Watling? This image shows that she photographs well; nice cheekbones and all... I'm wondering if I see her in other movies and it just doesn't click that she's the same gal, or if I've never seen her in anything else. Belle Watling is su...

I can't remember that outfit in Gone With The Wind. Olivia looks so tiny in both pictures.
Well from the slate it looks like this is from the sequence when Paul Hurst bites the dust. Change of costume I guess since the final film poor Melanie is in a nightgown.

Oh, for me, hands down is Footlight Parade (though directed by Archie Mayo, right?) By a Waterfall has got to be one of the very best numbers of all time. I'm also incredibly fond of Gold Diggers of 1933..Can't help it, a total sucker for the snappy dialogue. His far out numbers always make me smile...

Antonio Moreno, I can't see from this film how he could be a rival to Valentino since here he appears to be much more mature (but then again that goes with the part, he plays a father) but he gives a haunting performance and is a very likable character. I'm looking forward to seeing more films by R...

Trivia: - - she was once married to Michael Curtiz, who wouldn't give her a job in Hollywood when her carreer went south!!! Once in Paris when passing Olivia De Havilland's apartment in a car, she rolled down the window and screamed, "Merde!" and spit. And, then invited Myrna Loy to tea a...

I got to see a very funny silent comedy by René Clair: Les Deux Timides (1928). The story revolves around a young lawyer (Pierre Batcheff) who suffers from a terribe shyness. During his first plea in court when he is supposed to defend a wife-beater, he makes a huge blunder and his client gets the ...

Best news, we still have paper ballots! I love paper ballots. We have the inka vote process where you mark a hole in the ballot. Instead of breaking the paper hole (and causing dangling chads), it makes a nice indelible black circle that can't smudge. I wish all states had this kind of ballot inste...

I don't mean to turn this into a Cary Grant thread, but this CG tribute on YouTube has Vic Damone singing the theme to An Affair to Remember , and -- Cary and Vic in the same place -- well, it's just too much to resist. Thanks for posting that. I concur, Cary Grant was (and still is) just the best....
