Re: Cover Girl

Does your friend know anything of Cohn and Jean Arthur, I can't imagine him getting anywhere with her, yet she was Columbia's biggest star. CharlieChaplin - and all members of SSO - I love Gene Kelly in both Cover Girl and Singin in the Rain ... to me that's is his greatest musical that he ever don...

Re: Cover Girl

That's why Gene Kelly can't wait to get home because he can't stand Rita's professionalism at all. *Gene Kelly* can't stand his leading lady's *professionalism*??? Sources for this? From what I've read, Kelly was very protective of Hayworth, who was under assault from Harry Cohn, who wanted her for...

Re: What is a PreCodes?

Kingme, In the late 1920s, in the wake of various scandals that captivated the country (both good and bad), there was a great deal of talk of censorship and the movies. To keep the church and the feds at bay, the moguls who ran the studios decided that self-policing would be preferable to governmen...

Re: What is a PreCodes?

Hi Kingme. You've come across a pretty interesting subject. I first became aware of this "genre" when TCM aired a series of films to mark the publication of film historian Mick LaSalle's book "Complicated Women." He focuses on female screen personalities playing characters that ...

What is a PreCode?

Can anyone here can tell me what a PreCodes is? I know Silents - but - this is the first time I heard this term - maybe I seen some of them by accident and I would like some help in this. I hate to start a new thread to ask this question - but my heart tells me that I want to learn more about the w...

Re: Cover Girl

I'm haunted by Cover Girl . It's got me. I can't figure out why. I loved it as a kid. Does it tap into some subconcious memories of idyllic childhood? Y'all know I love musicals. But usually this appreciation is derived from the art of the dance, or the music, or the vocal interpretation of a song....

Re: Bad Movies You Love

Hey, Guys, having just posted over in the Uninvited thread, I'm reminded of another film so howlingly bad, it's fun, fun, fun! Remember X - The Man with the X-Ray Eyes ? Talk about your live-action comic books! And Milland takes it all so seriously - everybody else on the screen have half a smirk g...

Re: Best Batman Villain - The TV Series

Cliff Robertson was great as Shame (parodying Shane [1953]), but I guess top honors would go to Mr. Freeze who was played by George Sanders, Otto Preminger, and Eli Wallach in various episodes. My favorite cameo: Mr. Arkadin, Mr. Freeze ...
