Re: The 7th Cross

Wonderful film with an amazing cast. And such a moving turnaround when Tracy, as George, begins to see there is still humanity who want to help him . Herbert Rudley constantly trying to find him, Felix Bressart giving him the news of how he will escape and of course Oscar worthy Hume Cronyn as littl...

Re: Whaddya know about Leo Gordon?

It's interesting to see Leo Gordon in Joel McCrea 's TALL STRANGER . Leo plays a sympathetic character for maybe the only time in his career? And he did it so well. Such a nice surprise.

Re: The Sons of Katie Elder

Imagine the thrill of seeing Elmer Bernstein himself conduct a concert orchestra playing the Katie Elder theme. Well I did! Unforgettable!

Re: The Proud Ones (1956)

Another favorite western, but then I like Robert Ryan in most things.
Definitely a touch of HIGH NOON as Ryan forever regrets leaving unfinished business.
By the end, you can see he is content with himself.
Maybe sentimental but I do like the final scene with Hunter and the town drunk.

Re: Noir Films

DESPERATE is a good little thriller and a starring role for Steve Brodie who played a lot of supporting roles including one of my favorites, ARMORED CAR ROBBERY.
Amazing that Raymond Burr, always the menacing heavy, managed to turn into a leading man in the one and only PERRY MASON.

I love Ella Raines in IMPACT. And a a good part for Brian Donlevy as a loving husband deceived by his wife, Helen Walker.
A good little thriller

Re: Noir Films

[quote="charliechaplinfan"]Barbara Stanwyck made some diverse films at this point in her career. I know what you mean about John Lund, I felt the same. Lovely performance from Jane Cowl in NO MAN OF HER OWN as John Lund's mother. John Lund, such a good leading man in this and A FOREIGN AFF...

Re: Westerns

Guess I'm one of the few folk who like THE TRAIN ROBBERS. From the anonymous band who follow John Wayne and his team, to the mysterious Ricardo Montalban, and then the great teaming of Ben Johnson and Rod Taylor as two old cowboys who are fast running out of things to do,places to go, both happy to ...

Re: Randolph Scott - Tribute

Love Randolph Scott westerns and so enjoyed reading all the comments. What I find interesting about DECISION AT SUNDOWN is simply that Randolph is totally different from his usual characters. This is a conflicted character and the ending doesn't leave you thinking anything is going to get any better...

Superb western. And yes, let's hope Rune continues to work witH Doc Frail.
Thank you so much for that wonderful screen shot at the end of the movie. It's like a painting. I love the way Gary bends down and gently cradles Maria's face.

Re: Joel McCrea

Lovely tributes to Joel. Like Randolph Scott, he started doing only westerns in the late 40s and onwards, which is maybe a shame. As has been said, he had such an easy, relaxed style . I recently found I could order DVDs on Amazon in Spain and managed to get a double bill of WICHITA and THE OKLAHOMA...

Re: The "B" Movie Essentials

All I seem to be watching lately is B movies. I'm amazed so many have survived and sometimes in very good condition. The B movies generally didn't have the studio's big stars and usually had a running time of about an hour - and with obviously less money spent on them. But, as we know, a lot of them...
