Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
While as a bonafide Monsterkid I'm naturally indebted to Mary Shelley's tale, I always had problems with the book. Chiefly, how the creature learns to speak (as you say, Joe) so eloquently merely by overhearing a peasant teaching an Arabian nobelwoman the English language, coming to converse (or deb...

Another line I like (as it shows that Drac just ain't all that thrilled with being an immortal bloodsucker):
"To die. To be really dead. That must be glorious."

Re: CANDIDS II
That's an absolutely gorgeous picture, Joe. Charles Bronson might have been a tough guy but that photo also shows a romantic heart.

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...
Hey, that's good, Joe. Siodmak should have written the dialogue that way into his script. SPOILER ALERT (for those who haven't seen the film): It's a fun flick that certainly doesn't wear out its welcome, though the ending is rather implausible. Didn't daughter Jean stand up for her father in court ...

Re: CANDIDS II
And of course Miss Exner was also involved with Chicago mobster Sam Giancana. She kinda covered the spectrum, if you think about it.

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
I like how in SCARS OF DRACULA the Count is revived by a ridiculously artificial vampire bat dripping blood on his ashes. No wonder Christopher Lee tired of the role. He said that Hammer used to guilt-trip him into playing the part by reminding him of all the people his appearing in the Dracula pict...

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
Absolutely, Moira. And nowhere is that better exemplified in DHRFTG than in the scene where Dracula is staked but because Paul was not able to say a prayer, the Count was able to pull the stake (and quite a large one) from his blood-spouting heart and toss it at Paul and the cowering priest. Even Ch...

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
Yeah, logic kinda flies out the window at times. Wish I could watch these movies like I did as a young'un - accepting without the critical eye. Like in DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE when the resurrected Count finds that giant cross blocking the door to his castle. Why doesn't he simply get the pr...

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
So I'm just watching HORROR OF DRACULA and notice a ridiculous plot point. Can someone explain why Jonathan Harker (knowing full well that Dracula is the "big cheese" vampire) would venture down into the crypt and first drive a stake through the heart of Valerie Gaunt? He sees Dracula lyin...

Joe, you're obviously a young soul - as am I. We'll both make it . . . and not ON BORROWED TIME. Tuning in tonight. Fine film.

I know, Joe. Same age my dad departed this mortal coil. And I've got five years on both of 'em.

Jack Carson. Born in my home province. That aside, one of my favorite actors. Comical, often bumbling - and sometimes even downright nasty. He was particularly despicable as studio press agent Libby in the remake of A STAR IS BORN. He done Lionel Stander proud.

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare
Gosh Moira, I forgot about her early appearances on MASH. Those episodes play incessantly up here in Canada; now I've got to keep a special eye out for her. And of course she was adorable as the befuddled mom/wife in the "Shrunk the Baby" movies. You summed up her special qualities beautif...

Re: George Raft
I think George mended a lot of fences later in life. Jon Tuska called Raft one of the "nicest and best-liked men in Hollywood."
