Sounds great, Chris! it's always nice to see newer comedies that are worth the time.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Lucky, I just bought the two movie versions - My Mother's Castle and My Father's Glory - recently. I haven't had a chance to watch them yet. Pagnol is an addiction!

A man who'd kill a dog is strictly ewwww! I wouldn't have been as kind to Welles as Loretta was. If he killed my dog I might just have gone after him with that fire poker.

There's a word they don't permit?
There's Perry White! It only took a day since our conversation for him to turn up as a judge in Strange Alibi.

I can't believe I didn't think of Orson Welles in THE STRANGER until just now watching on TCM.
Marriage might be awfully exciting with Welles' character...he' s no milquetoast and he's handsome, but I don't think I'd risk it.

Re: Favorite TV Shows
You know, it's interesting that tv in trying to become more diverse, has completely left afterschool programming to Disney and Nickelodeon. It bothered me when my daughter was younger that the content from 3 oclock on is so completely inappropriate for kids to even surf through...dead bodies and rap...

Re: Favorite TV Shows
Going the cheap route is traditional in Dr. Who! I think the producers would be proud of your thriftiness... :D I don't think it will bother me too much that this doctor steps away a bit from the types who have most recently played him. One of the pleasures of the series is how varied they all are. ...

Ahh Term of Trial , yes! What a terrific choice, Chris! I totally forgot about that one... one of the best little known movies Olivier made. They give George and Martha from Who's Afraid of V. Woolf a run for their money. :D The whole point of The Paper Chase is that you NOT like John Houseman. I th...

Re: The September 2014 Schedule for TCM
Maven, the "No Talent Joe" number should indeed make you think of Jane Russell's number from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes because Jack Cole choreographed both of them. He was apparently given free rein to indulge his own fantasies. and thankfully some of ours. :D *****************************...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
kingrat - have you seen the early versions of the story - Marius , Fanny , and Cesar ? Fanny is a good film, with beautiful locations and a great feel for the Pagnol story, but I think you would love the three 1930's films that Pagnol himself produced. You really hit the nail on the head about Logan...

Re: College Profs on Film: Good, Bad or Just Ewwww?
Gangsters, hillbillies and zombies are nothing new! but you'd think they were just invented by TV and movie studios lately. I thought of another sub-genre of film college professor - any role played by Michael Caine in the last 30 years! I was thinking specifically of his alcoholic prof in Educating...

Re: Favorite TV Shows
I had a very tiny crush on Jack Larson when I was a kid. I imagine it was tough for him to be so identified with his role. It's one thing to be forever known as Superman, at least you are a grown man and a hero....but Larson was forever a boy and kind of a helpless one at that.

Re: College Profs on Film: Good, Bad or Just Ewwww?
Red, I always thought I'd like to direct it too...but the role of Cleota was problematic. Her dialogue is written in dialect, so playing it in any other way would mean seriously tampering with the original text. And there wasn't a single other person on our play reading committee who voted for it to...
