Gagman, I agree that Fox is pretty dismal when it comes to their silent library. I think Fox is aware of what it owns but doesn't necessarily see the value in their holdings, while Paramount, on the other hand, is just clueless eight ways to Sunday about their Silent Library. The mere fact that they...

Upcoming Stanwyck Tribute

It's not a movie palace but the recently opened Billy Wilder Theater in Westwood (here in Los Angeles) is the new home of the UCLA Film and Television Archive. Next month and into early June they will be celebrating Barbara Stanwyck's Centennial. I'll dig out the calendar and post some films and dat...

Julie, The scene for me in Yellow Ribbon is when Wayne comes out to say goodbye to his troops one last time and they present him with his shiny gold watch. I tear up just thinking about it. The night they announced that Wayne had died, almost thirty years now, Channel 2 news played that clip over th...

Marco, Don't forget that next Saturday at the Castro, they are honoring Kevin Brownlow (who will be there) and screening one of my favorite Doug, Sr movies "Man in the Iron Mask". You have no idea how much I wish I could be there with you...but work calls and an afternoon with Rex Bell, Jr...

I grew up with parents who loved Westerns (big surprise there, huh?). Anyways, I remember when Gunsmoke was on at 10:00 on Saturday nights, in black and white and Miss Kitty ran more than a hotel upstairs above the bar. At least that's what my dad said she ran. Bonanza was a must every Sunday night....

Gagman,

Could we be about to embark on a great adventure with 20th Fox? I am hearing rumors that Fox is going to produce a feature length doc on Ford.

The only reason I can think of for Fox to do this is to release the Ford silents.

Here's hoping!

I have to agree with Moira.

I would be glued to my television every Saturday evening to hear Robert O and Marty Scorcese host The Essentials.

The Magnificent Seven, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Dances with Wolves have all been mentioned. I would add the score to Lonesome Dove and Quigley Down Under . RIP Basil Pouledaris. Runners Up would include: Duel at Diablo by Neal Hefti. There was a wonderful mul...

I have to agree with Jon: The Terror of Tiny Town, a musical western starring little people.

Really close runner up: Support Your Local Sheriff and The Skin Game.

It's always been a three way tie for me and Ford's westerns: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon The Searchers and Liberty Valance . You can condemn me to the stake but I can't choose a favorite of the three. The runners up include Stagecoach, the Iron Horse and Fort Apache . Stagecoach because of its story an...

Jon,

Could I ask for one for Film Preservation? It would be a place to talk about Film Preservation, Restoration, Kevin Brownlow, David Shepard, et al and movie Palaces!

Anne, I think we are all in a wait and see mode regarding TCM City. I love TCM and I love their website. But, many here have had their faith badly damaged by the two incidents (the one last summer and the most recent one) and are wanting to see what TCM Web is going to do to ensure that we don't hav...

Anne,

Thanks so much for moving it over here. I moved it down to the Classic Cinema College Forum and broke out the paper and the Elmers' and brought the other posts over from Yahoo as well.

Will wait further word from Jon and Moira if we should bring the ones from TCM City over here as well.
