Re: Clark Gable

Yeah yeah...he got the top votes in an Ed Sullivan poll along with Myrna Loy back in 1938. There is a reason why Clark Gable is called "THE KING." And the picture with him in the costume coat says it all. He is a man's Man. He is all Man especially when he cries.

Hi Deweeeeeee.

Tell us, how is the festival coming along. Big turnouts? Enthusiastic cinephiles??

Re: Dewey1960 a Guest Programmer at the Roxie in May!

Geeez, I wish I could Priceline or Travelocity my way for a quickie trip to San Francisco. This noir-fest sounds fierce.

Awwww. Congrats Dewey. Good luck with this. Publicity, crowds, films.

I will wear the Indian outfit. Love those feathers. Makes me think of Sally Rand. I know...I know...she used fans.

Re: Two Bs from 1947

YIKES!!! My apologies to the great city by the Bay. I will only refer to San Francisco as San Francisco. Do I have to sing it the way the Village People did???

Re: Two Bs from 1947

Dude, don't do it. Please don't tempt me with the "fly out to Frisco for my noir festival." That would be a deliriously crazy thing for me to do. Now I know I could probably find it on the board...but I am a lazy baby boomer, so would you please answer the five "W's" for me: W he...

Re: HOUSE OF NOIR

"Our Vines Have Tender Grapes" interest me for one reason: Frances Gifford. But Eddie G. a farmer? Ohhhhkay. I concede...he can do anything: gangsta : ("Little Caesar") sadist : ("Key Largo") insurance man/father-figure : ("Double Indemnity") lascivious lecher...

Re: ,The Best Character Actors?

Some of you have already named some of my favorites: ( Eve Arden , Thelma Ritter ). I'd like to add these names to the list of character actors. (Fancy schmancy Miss Goddess with your photos). For my picks...the best?? I dunno. But my palms sweat and my pulse quickens when I see that they are in a m...

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

"...the inept magician with the Italian accent, "Dominic the Great," and she was his silent contortionist assistant, "Shekuntalah?" As Dominic the Great always said: "No applause-a, please, save-a for the end!" " [/i] Wow! I forgot about that. Sad news about ...

LynnZ., I think all weapons are checked at the door once you reach the Great Beyond. Those metal detectors are pretty sensitive at that level. ;-)

Thank you for that direction, Knitwit. I'll be on the lookout for the Edward G. Robinson film. I'm interested in seeing more films of hers. Knitwit. Are you sure it's okay to call you that?? ;-)

Re: HOUSE OF NOIR

THE ARNELO AFFAIR John Hodiak, George Murphy, Eve Arden and FRANCES GIFFORD . I came by ”The Arnelo Affair” on the back of a glossy big-budgeted, M-G-M, war-time drama: “Cry Havoc.” There was one actor who stood out among veterans Bainter, Blondell and Sothern and newbies like Ella Raines. Her name...
