Re: Least favorite Actor or Actrees of the Classic Period

I love Van Johnson, and think he's a very underrated actor. So manly and naturalistic!

Jean Arthur is my fave screwball comedienne besides Marion Davies! She's so unique! But different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I even like John Wayne.

Re: The Good News Thread

Alison- great photos of you with the kids! They are beautiful, but then you know that! My granddaughter Annabelle has begun to talk! She says, "No", "Outside", "Juice", and "Uh-oh." The latter she says when she throws something down on purpose, LOL! My son and...

Re: R.I.P. Dennis Hopper

He was a good actor, but he was one of those Hollywood bad boy types that I didn't find appealing. Glad he got to see his star though.

Re: Spencer Tracy

I always thought of Spencer Tracy as being older- and then I saw him with Loretta Young in "Man's Castle" and Woo-Woo! While not traditionally handsome, he was masculine and sensual. He didn't make a movie until he was thirty. He was Kate Hepburn's favorite actor too. 8) He's a real tough ...

Re: Spencer Tracy

Spencer Tracy is a great actor precisely because he made it look easy. When you have a gift, it always looks effortless. He's my Mom's favorite actor.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I love Jean Arthur! She and Carole Lombard just can't be beat for solid, madcap performances! Their brilliant quirkiness always leaves me spellbound. I feel the same about Marion Davies-they are all pretty much the same type, but with their own distinct flair. :D

Re: A Liberal Comeback in the UK ?

Ken, Everyone makes "ill-advised" decisions, and no one is perfect, but in America at least, most people were prepared to give President Obama the benefit of the doubt. You seem to now be as much of an expert on British politics as you are American. You aren't the most tolerant person that...

Re: A Liberal Comeback in the UK ?

Thanks Brenda, what does your brother think of it? This government have been left an terrible legacy by the last government, Labour inherited a healthy economy and stripped it bare. The first thing I'd do is start withdrawing from Afghanistan, that would save more than the lives of our soldiers. Th...

Re: A Liberal Comeback in the UK ?

Alison,

I saw the new Prime Minister's speech, and I was very impressed by it. I wish we were trying harder in this country to get along, but there are hotheads on both sides. I do hope the coalition works out! It will be an inspiration and an example to others!

Re: A Liberal Comeback in the UK ?

Alison,

Bruce has stated that he thinks it unfair that Scotland gets to vote in your Parliament, but you don't in theirs. He's conservative like I am, and intensely dislikes Tony Blair, but liked Margaret Thatcher.

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I have seen very little of Norma's movies, and only a slight bit more for Connie. But for me at least, from what I've seen, I enjoy Connie more. She had great chemistry with Colman- it was almost like opposites attracting. Norma does a brilliant job in Kiki from the very standpoint that you don't kn...
