Re: CARY GRANT
You expressed what you wanted to say perfectly, feaito. For the reasons you stated, I prefer earlier Cary movies to the 50's ones. I agree that it would have been really interesting to see the alternate ending of Suspicion. I like "bad" Cary....in OAHW, Geoff starts out as sort of a heartl...

Re: HELP WITH A DILEMMA
I have had tonsillitis bouts before, and when I had it the first time, my throat closed up so quickly that within one night I went from normal to sounding like Kermit the Frog. It was extremely painful. I was flat on my back for two weeks recuperating, so make sure you take it easy and let it get co...

Re: CARY GRANT
I personally stay away from the Cary biographies. I don't want to know. Anything they say would be demeaning of a man who so obviously wanted to be seen in certain way. The biggest compliment I can give to him is simply to watch his movies and appreciate him for what he made himself into, which must...
Re: Westerns
That is AWESOME, MissG! God, I love that! See, Ford knew how to handle things. He might have gone overboard personally once in a while, but as a director, he had the instincts to know when to coddle and when to get out the whip..... Oh, and by the way, You have just convinced me to spend the money t...

Re: Is Humor an Essential Ingredient?
OK, if we are talking Chaplin here, I would love to bring up A Woman of Paris. It's a very serious movie, with tragic overtones, though I wouldn't necessarily call it a tragedy. However, there is a wonderfully humorous moment between Edna Purviance and Adolph Menjou right in the middle of the film. ...

I was thinking of Carl Dreyer, but I don't know all of his work. And of course I have no idea what he was like in real life....he could've been the life of the party!

Re: Clark Gable
The child who plays "Nando" is an absolute delight. Clark Gable seems to really enjoy this movie, but then who wouldn't enjoy being around Sophia Loren AND Naples????
I didn't read the word "Naples" right. Almost fell off my chair....

Re: Westerns
Moira, I was thinking the same thing - A.M. must have had a hard time of it. I imagine Wayne poking fun at him on the set, all the while saying (a la Gene Kelly in Singing in the Rain) "Why don't I just say it this way, like I did in The Horse Soldiers?" Couldn't they have figured out the ...
Re: Westerns
I watched The Undefeated last night. The movie was beautiful to look at, with scenes showing wild horses being driven south to Mexico. The sparkling cinematography, by William Clothier, was the best thing about this film. The rest of the movie was..... well, let's just say that it is the kind of mov...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Just got back from UP . Anyone who hasn't seen it, see it. The secret of Pixar's success - story story story. Every thread in the storyline is tied neatly to every other thread.... and wrapped up in a big bunch of beautiful balloons. it's the kind of moviemaking I have been longing for, and that the...
