Re: Trevor Bannister;Mr. Lucas R.I.P

I hated to hear this news, too. I'll always remember:

Dear Sexy Knickers,

I don't half fancy you. Meet me outside at 5:30 and we'll get it together.

Re: Made in Dagenham

Thanks for this review. I'd wanted to see this film but found that it was in and out of theatres before I even knew about it.

Re: Academy Awards

If you find one with George C. Scott holding his Oscar, please post. Now THAT I would like to see (especially if he's smiling).

Re: What is your "Discovery"?

My best answer to this question would be the Australian sitcom Mother and Son , which I caught one Saturday on PBS, but which our local station stopped airing not long after. My mother absolutely adores this series, and I like it a lot as well. I bought some Australian DVDs of the series for her one...

Re: I WAKE UP DREAMING 2011: THE LEGENDARY & THE LOST

Oh Lord, if only I could either move to CA or somehow make the trek from West Virginia to California every week. Why can't they hurry up and invent teleportation already. Among many others, I'd love to make the showing of The Violent Years . Such a fun movie. That opening scene is one of my all-time...

Re: Your Favorite Foreign Film?

Because I love lists, and because I'm in such a euphorically good mood now that my paper (supposed to be 10pp, ended up 20) is finally done and turned in... In no order (and I'm assuming this means "foreign language" film) Good Morning (1959) Mon Oncle (1958) Contempt (1963) The Apu Trilog...

Re: Bad Movies You Love

Gotta love that poster. They seem to have taken their cue from C. B. DeMille when it comes to how to make a religious-themed movie.

Re: 10 Favorite Actors and their performances

Working on a paper and having a momentary writer's block, so I'll allow myself a brief break while quickly listing mine: James Stewart (It's a Wonderful Life) Cary Grant (His Girl Friday or Bringing Up Baby) Charles Laughton (The Suspect) Alec Guinness (The Horse's Mouth) Peter Sellers (Dr. Strangel...

Re: Three Colors: Red (1994)

I might be the oddity to this thread in that I appreciated the entire Three Colors Trilogy and saw all three films twice, but damn if I can ever remember anything about any of them to discuss when someone brings them up. I think they're so overwhelming that I just can't quite keep everything togethe...

Re: Who's Going to Win the Oscars

I'll be doing homework, but even if I wasn't, I'd be watching episodes of Kevin Brownlow's HOLLYWOOD. I'm hoping voters went for The Social Network rather than The King's Speech, but it's not looking too good. I liked The King's Speech, but for sheer relevance, it pales in comparison. And I'm hoping...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Not much time to really go into detail, but this week while in Greenville visiting some friends from South Carolina, I managed to find the time to see The King's Speech , and if it's playing anywhere near you, I highly recommend it. Colin Firth will very likely win the Oscar this year for his perfor...

Re: The Good News Thread

The past year has been quite busy for me, which explains my lack of posting in recent months. I started out the year unemployed and wondering how in heaven's name I was going to get my foot in the door in a new company. Making things worse, the past couple of years had been pretty discouraging overa...
