Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

ROOM FOR ONE MORE is an underrated comedy-drama. I was surprised at how much I liked it.

Re: Bond, James Bond

The previews are exciting. I'm actually intrigued. But I probably won't see it. Haven't been Bonded since Brosnan.

Re: Hello Everyone

Welcome, AMF! We're honored to have you join us. Some of us enjoy Ms. Moorehead in DARK PASSAGE, THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS, and of course, CITIZEN KANE. This site is pretty quiet lately. We're busy, distracted and so forth. Please don't be discouraged if you don't see a lot of activity. Be assured y...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

If anyone's in the mood, Svengoolie is showing FRANKENSTEIN tonight. We've all seen it many times. Not much to say about this exceptional work that hasn't been said already. But there's not a more perfect choice for Halloween on a Saturday night! Surely, somebody, somewhere, will enjoy this classic.

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

Oh, my goodness! Another legend has left us. I, also, hope it was a peaceful transition. I'm hearing "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" in my head!

Re: What recent films have you seen?

I knew this was a Mike Leigh film the minute I saw Spall's recognizable jowly face! I wasn't aware of this movie, but I admire most of the director's work. As you commented, Moira, his films appear to be largely improvised. It's usually effective.

Re: To Kill A Mockingbird

I liked everything about it! Lee's use of language and narrative is exceptional, as we already know. The story is fascinating; not so much thanks to plot, but to the response of the characters. Yes, it's hard to accept Atticus as cold and insensitive. We know this man. He's not like that. But it's h...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

I retract my statement that MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS is silly. This is a fine, Jack Arnold B feature. Played with intelligence (give or take) and drama. The monster, once he finally appears, is terrifying. The fact that we don't see him for over an hour is even better. Suspense, not shock. As most of y...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

Tonight's feature will be William Castle's chilling NIGHT WALKER; its first time on Svengoolie's program. Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Taylor pull out the stops in this surprise filled heart stopper, one of the director's best. If you're among the uninitiated, DO NOT miss this classic melodrama!

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

Missed THE THING THAT COULDN'T DIE last night. Have I seen it before? With movies such as this, it's hard to tell! Hell, I may even own a copy! But I don't think so. This one doesn't sound familiar. I'm willing to bet Svengoolie suggested he should have quit while he was a head!
