Re: the 2023 Feinberg Awards
I only saw 3 movies made this year: "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3," "Barbie," and "The Boy and the Heron." I loved "Barbie," and I especially loved "The Boy and the Heron." I might try to watch "The Holdovers" because I like Paul Giamatti....

Re: January 2024 Schedule Posted, Robert Mitchum is SOTM
I like "Desire Me" too. It's kind of a weird film. It's film noir esque, and it was nice seeing Garson outside of playing the stoic, mother/wife type roles. It's been awhile since I've seen this film, but I remember liking Garson with Mitchum and I remember loving the fog scene. I disagree...

Re: February 2024 Schedule Posted, 31 Days of Oscar
Power of Film is dull, very dull, and for a series that airs on TCM, there are scabt few classic-era titles even discussed. It is all very surface level I barely made it through the first episode. Passed on the rest. I don't like to feel like I'm being lectured in some class at my age........ "...

Re: February 2024 Schedule Posted, 31 Days of Oscar
The scheduled showing of Harold and Maude coming up on February 8 goes along with the Power of Film documentary series that evening, so Professor Howard Suber must comment on the film at some point in episode 6. Has anyone been watching the Power of Film series? I've recorded it but have not watche...

Re: March 2024 Schedule Posted, Debbie Reynolds is SOTM
I'm definitely interested in "A Lion in the Streets," it sounds amazing. The evening of precodes on 3/11 devoted to "Working Women" look exciting. I recommend "Baby Face," (which who needs me to recommend this pre-code classic?), "Female," "Big Business G...

Re: It Was a Very Good Year
^1980? Don't forget ALTERED STATES ...or CRUISIN' and of course THE APPLE ... ;) The Apple might be the worst movie I’ve ever seen. It’s not even bad in a good way. It’s just flat out terrible. The only thing I can remember about it is the leading actress’ song about how much she loves takin...

Re: January 2024 Schedule Posted, Robert Mitchum is SOTM
Delighted that TCM is showing so many Mitchum movies this month. It seems churlish to wish that they had found room for THE NIGHT FIGHTERS, a fine film set in Ireland, and, to show Mitchum as part of an ensemble in the latter part of his career, THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON. I'm not especially fond of ...

Re: February 2024 Schedule Posted, 31 Days of Oscar
At least I'll catch up on my DVR during this time. Since there are a finite amount of Oscar nominated/winning films, this is usually a fairly unexciting month for me. I'll have to fill in the loss of Noir Alley with my Noir Alley recordings that I haven't watched yet.

Re: Double feature: "Ivy" and "Moss Rose" (1947)
Hibi - To jog your memory, Ivy (1947) was shown on TCM on January 28, 2016 as part of a tribute to William Cameron Menzies, who is credited as a Producer of the film. For the introduction, Robert Osborne discussed the film with James Curtis, who has written a biography of Menzies. This happened to ...

Re: The Two Mrs. Carrolls (1947)
I like this film but I cannot help but feel that Bogart was miscast. However, it is still enjoyable. This film came out the same year that Barbara Stanwyck made "Cry Wolf" with Errol Flynn. In "Cry Wolf," I feel that Flynn was miscast, as he's playing the uncle of Barbara's husba...

Re: Double feature: "Ivy" and "Moss Rose" (1947)
I highly recommend IVY. I've seen it three times. "Ivy" is excellent. I watched it on internet archive awhile back and was delighted to see it on Criterion Channel as part of their "Gaslight Noir" series. The print was excellent--much better than the internet archive one. I am h...

Re: Explanation of New Shift in Streaming
I have a large physical media collection solely for access, which is especially important since my primary interests are classic hollywood and classic television. As someone who grew up watching Nick at Nite in the 90s, I fell in love with I Love Lucy, Mary Tyler Moore, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The B...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES
I like when Olivia de Havilland slaps Bette Davis and says "Damn you! Now, will you shut your mouth?" If she saw it, I'm sure Miriam Hopkins loved that scene. Yeah, that's a good one too! Agree about Hopkins, lol. I think one of the reasons Bette liked Olivia is that de Havilland never st...
