Re: RITA HAYWORTH - The Love Goddess
Dear "R.H." I don't have regular access to a PC. I'm enjoying your collection. It will take me a while, but, I intend to see every page--BEAUTIFUL IMAGES. I'm surprised though. Many of the colorized pics show Rita with blue eyes!
P.S. Could you recommend a good book about Rita?

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns
In case anyone wonders why I needed to edit the next to last post "5 times", I didn't. If I click "submit" (while posting on my mobile phone) and nothing seems to happen, I cancel, and click again. Each time I do this it seems to register as another "edit". The sweet va...

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns
In regard to Pal's THE TIME MACHINE. The DVD release that I have features some great extras. A documentary, hosted by Rod Taylor, about the making of the film, and, the design and history of the movies famous time machine prop. Also, a charming vignette with Taylor and Alan Young recreating their or...

Re: TIME TUNNEL. In RENDEZVOUS WITH YESTERDAY, the newspaper that "Doug" takes with him when he first enters the tunnel, sports a photo of R.M.S. Lusitania (not Titanic)!

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)
Ay, it's a pretty good mystery yarn. The revelation at the end must have astonished a fair few readers at the time of the book's original publication.

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns
W.G., I love THE TIME TUNNEL. I recently bought the two volume set containing every episode--the U.S. edition. The bright sparks responsible for the British edition lopped off all the cliff-hanger endings that lead into the next episode, and put them all together on one disc as a "Special Featu...

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)
Sorry W.G. I didn't make it clear. I was referring to Mank's commentary on the Mamoulian version of Jekyll and Hyde (a special feature of the double sided DVD which contains, both the '31 and '41 versions).

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)
Very probably so W.G., but then Greg Mank did think that Robert Donat's name was "Robert Donut" (yes, I'm a bugger for accents)! One final "last" word from me on the Tracy picture (and the subject as a whole). One of my favourite scenes. Jekyll enters the beautiful M.G.M. recreat...

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)
Incidently, I've long suspected that when the monster speaks with Ygor's voice, at the conclusion of GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN, it could be Chaney doing a Lugosi impersonation. Listen, see what you think.

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)
I like the way Bela Lugosi pronounced the name: "Frank'n'SHtein"

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)
One last word about Dr. J. And Mr. H., and a question: Last night, I re-read Stevenson's original yarn (first time since I was at school). I've never seen so many semi-colons! The idea that Hyde is of a smaller stature than Jekyll just seems daft. The bit about him being caught short (in a manner of...

Re: Oland or Toler
Moira, on the subject of Asian actors who could have portrayed Chan. I agree that Sessue Hayakawa and/or Philip Ahn would have been very good choices. But, would either actor have been popular enough to sustain a series in the way that Oland and Toler did? The first actors to play Chan in movies WER...

Re: Oland or Toler
RH, Correction please. CHARLIE CHAN'S SECRET (1936) was an Oland picture. Toler wasn't cast as Chan till after Oland's death in August '38. My dad, Fred, would have shared your preference for Oland. He even remembered Oland as Fu Manchu!
