I remember Gregory In the western TEXAS LADY where he takes a shine to Claudette Colbert but loses her to Barry Sullivan!

Re: Walter Huston: Lesser and Better Known Work
Fine performance from Walter in EDGE OF DARKNESS as Ann Sheridan's father who eventually realises he cannot stand on the sidelines. He memorably sang "September Song" (Kurt Weill) in the Broadway show, KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY in 1938. (Charles Coburn in the movie version) I also liked him in...

Re: Roman Bohnen - HUAC Victim - Great Character Actor
Thank you for reminding us of this fine actor. I recall him also in DEADLINE AT DAWN, and in EDGE OF DARKNESS, as the little man who kept thinking what he wanted to say to the Nazis and finally proving his bravery.

Was lucky enough to see Judi on stage as "Desiree" in Sondheim's A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. She was sensational and her "Send in the Clowns " is the best I have ever heard. So moving.

Re: Ann Dvorak Alert !
Love Ann Dvorak. Hopefully a biography of Ann is in the works. There is a website devoted to Ann. She's so good in I WAs AN AMERICAN SPY and sings beautifully, "Because of You". Also love her with Randolph Scott in ABILENE TOWN. She should have been one of Warners top stars but went to Eng...

Re: Bernard Herrmann
I love Hermann's music especially NORTH BY NORTHWEST.. It is interesting to listen to the soundtrack for ON DANGEROUS GROUND and realise that Mr Hermann re-used some of the themes in North By Northwest. Also interesting to hear Hermann's titles music for TORN CURTAIN which wasn't used, but I'd do li...

Re: Ann Sheridan
What wonderful pictures of Ann. Thank you, everyone.
I adore COME NEXT SPRING and think Ann, Steve Cochran , Sherry Jackson and Richard Eyer gave terrific performances.
Also love Ann inTHE UNFAITHFUL and I WAS A MALE WAR BRIDE.
And she could sing too!

Re: Were producers in the studio era creative people?
Good topic. I think most producers were simply executives, deciding what films would be made, who would direct and star in them. But after reading MEMO FROM DAVID O. SELZNICK and MEMO FROM DARRYL F. ZANUCK , you begin to understand that some producers really were creative and contributed a lot to the...

Re: Victor Jory
Oh yes, what a beautiful voice.
Such a pity Victor got typecast as the heavy in so many films. That's why it's such a pleasure to see him in something like FIGHTING MAN of THE PLAINS in a sympathetic role as the saloon owner trying to help Randolph Scott.
I had no idea he did so much TV

Re: Jan Sterling - "In the Spotlight"
Thank you for lovely tribute to Jan Sterling. I recently saw Jan in a film new to me SLAUGHTER ON Tenth AVENUE in which she played a character entirely different from anything I had seen her in before, with little makeup, no fancy clothes , just sheer dramatic acting ability. Surely one of her fines...

Re: Robert Ryan: The Man and His Films
Wonderful to see all the tributes to Robert Ryan and to read the interview with his daughter and Marsha Hunt. My favorites of Robert include ON DANGEROUS GROUND, BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK, THE SET-UP. Can I say generally that I am so envious of the great festivals and screenings of classic Hollywood tha...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I think Melvyn Douglas was ideal as leading man to Garbo, Irene Dunne, Joan Crawford,Grace Moore. Urbane, charming, with a smile ever present.A relaxed manner perfect for romantic comedies. Tonight I watched WICKED AS THEY COME which has the most surprising father and daughter duo I have ever seen - ...

Re: Love Affair or An Affair to Remember?
Don't normally like remakes, but prefer An Affair to Remember, mainly because I'm not a fan of Charles Boyer. Would have loved Grant and Dunne together. I agree Cary can convey so much with his facial expressions. He is so moving too in the scene where he touches the chairs where Deborah Kerr and Ca...

Re: People Will Talk (1951 d-Mankiewicz)
Worth watching if only for Finlay Currie's "Shunderson" and his story of how he escaped death. - that wonderful accent. Hume Cronyn did what he could with an unsympathetic character. And as much as I love Cary Grant I tend to agree he seemed not quite comfortable with his character and und...
