Re: This Is the END
THE UNSEEN I feel those are all excellent movies concerning death. I must wonder if there should be a "before the movie begins" category for movies in which a death informs the movie while not truly being in it. Rebecca (1940) Psycho (1960) Repentance (1984) The Hound of the Baskervilles ...

Re: Me-TV
I feel like there are still so many undiscovered treasures in pre-70s television. And all in glorious black and white! I wonder how many remember "listening" to the first color broadcast, hosted by Arthur Godfrey. It was put on by CBS, of course, using their competing system which involve...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
If I am not mistaken what you mention sounds more like Grant's and Bergman's 1958 comedy " Indiscreet " than " Notorious " Lomm. feaito, It is Indiscreet - because Bergman's character thought that Grant's character to be married - but in reality Grant's character was single and ...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Regarding the movie version of "What's the Worst That Could Happen?" I heard that the Teamsters who worked on the movie had a T-shirt made for themselves. The front of the T-Shirt said "What's the Worst That Could Happen?" The back of the T-shirt said "A sequel." LOVE ...

Re: *CANDIDS*
Really love the "Happy Birthday" series. Still famous or nearly forgotten, these people deserve a reminder, however brief, of their existence because of the joy (and/or escape) they brought to our lives.
Thanks, again, for the memories.

"Goodnight, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are." And he strolls out of the spotlight. And, yes, we do miss him.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Wow, I think this is the first time in my life I've encountered other people who like the Dortmunder novels. "Jimmy the Kid," the third novel in the series, has a lot of fun with crime movies. You said it. A great table-turning ending, too. I guess that one owes a debt to "The Ransom...

Re: Odd thought of new movies.
I think CGI has its place and definitely love a lot of modern blockbusters. This weekend I saw an all CGI film, the Lego Movie, and loved it! :) But I do definitely agree, especially with big action movies, they overdo the CGI at the expense of plot and acting. Totally agree with you. There are thi...

Re: This Is the END
“Heathcliff, can you see the gray over there where our castle is? I’ll wait for you until you come.” That’s the one that always gets me. There seems to be a general effort these days to avoid mentioning “Titanic” (in any context), but when Leo slips under the water, you don’t know who to feel worse ...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
That sounds GREAT, Lucky. I've never seen the second Dortmunder movie or read Westlake's books. Thanks for the tip! Just watched "Hot Rock" on PBS. They really did a great job, so great that it's a shame the same cast couldn't be assembled for all of the films. The others vary widely in q...

Re: Odd thought of new movies.
One thing about New Movies is CGI - Computer Generated Imagery in Movies and that alone makes wonder why they are doing this these days. To me, its fake and I just can't imagine anyone in my own age bracket wants to watch a CGI movie. This one Odd thought of new movies that irks me. I'm afraid you ...

Re: Odd thought of new movies.
That's a beautiful sentiment, Lucky. I'm all in favor of technological progress. But the more we gain, the more we lose. Do we really need to text somebody who's in the next room? Thanks for the kind words. "Inherit" is full of great quotes. As long as we don't text somebody who's in the ...
