Re: Will Rogers

Jack, I didn't know you were a fellow Okie.

Will is revered there for sure. I have a little book full of Will Rogers clippings that was handed down to me from my grandfather. Much of it is as funny and relevant as ever.

Re: HAPPY 2010 EVERYONE

Courtney and I at the Cinematic Titanic show on NYE in Philly. CT is most of the cast of MST3K reunited to do live movie riffing in front of an audience. They did a 3 movie marathon on NYE from 8-1:45, and amazingly we made it through the whole thing.

Re: Christmas presents and festive stories

We had dinner at our house for Courtney's parents, her daughter, and our friend Pam. We also had some other people over earlier for cocktails and apps. We served roast duck with sour cherry compote, brussels sprout hash with caramelized shallots, roasted garlic mashed potatoes and corn with roasted ...

Re: I don't know why

Well I've been loving "Gates of Delirium" from Yes's 1975 album "Relayer." I remember not liking it too much when it came out, but in retrospect it's a lot better than I thought at the time. Other than that I've been listening to more Yes, King Crimson, Emerson Lake and Palmer, a...

Brittany was way too young to die. My favorite role of hers was as the voice of Luann on "King of the Hill."

Re: Whatcha cookin' for Thanksgiving?

Is it possible that this item might be part of a Baltimore tradition with roots in that city's German immigrant population? Sounds like quite the side dish! This USA Today article discusses how sauerkraut became a part of the Maryland Thanksgiving tradition. You're right -- it's part of the German ...

Re: It's Durward Kirby!

I did get an answer to my question. Courtney found a scan of a feminist screed from the early 70s on the role of women in TV ads that mentions him shilling in supermarkets for Ivory Liquid.

It's Durward Kirby!

Back in the 70s and early 80s, this was a gag line among my friends. There was a TV commercial where two women were shopping and Kirby came up to them to shill some product or another, and they said "Hey, it's Durward Kirby!" The response from my friends and I was "who in the hell is ...

Re: Public Option - Op - Out

I'm in favor of the opt-out. One of two things will happen. 1. No states will opt-out, definitely showing that this is something that the majority wants and needs. 2. Some states will opt-out, and we'll be able to see the difference it makes in terms of people's health and wealth. I'm in favor of si...
