Re: Hollis

This is sad and terrible news. He was one of the good ones. I don't even have words.

Re: The Forum for Questions for Charlie Tabesh

I heard from Ken Winokur of Alloy Orchestra that it was getting much easier to work with Paramount on their early silents and pre-codes. Is that the case, and can we look forward to more from this particular studio in the future?

General announcement to the SSO membership

I cannot find the remote to my DVR, and I'm getting really irritated.

Re: New Password

I don't like it either, but it's a defense against the kind of hacking we had a couple of months ago.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but it really is necessary.

Re: Difficulty Accessing Site

As most of you are aware, this has been an incredibly difficult month here at the Oasis. In fact, we came close to losing all posts since the version 3.0 upgrade. We are taking some steps to ensure that we can restore the site in the event of another breakdown. Thanks to all of you for your patience.

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

What I did not understand is why Emil Janning's age old and well liked Doorman/Porter is suddenly demeaned and scorned by his own family and the entire neighborhood, just because He is now a Men's Room Attendant? A job He reluctantly accepts. He really loved his work for all those years as a Doorme...

Re: Any IMDB Insiders aboard?

The Amazon links are still there, although they moved over to the left side of the screen.

And yes, Amazon bought them in the late 90s.

Re: Ain't it the Truth

I have pretty strong feelings on the school prayer thing as well as the corporal punishment thing. It goes back to a childhood issue, but it was an experience that taught me that government endorsement of religion is as wrong as could be. My dad is a Methodist minister. Methodists believe in an itin...

Re: The Good News Thread

I don't think that you can be a baseball fan and not have a soft spot for the Cubs. I mean, if you're going to root for an NL team they're as good as any.

The Os are due, but we're in the toughest division in baseball -- facing the Yankees, the Red Sox, and Tampa. At least we can still beat Toronto.

Re: The Good News Thread

Jon: Opening day in Baltimore and we have rain. Coincidence or ominous prediction of Orioles' season? Looking for our 12th "transitional" season in a row this year. That said, if the weather was predictive of the Os, the day would have started out sunny and rained late in the afternoon. B...

Re: A Privilege ?

Would this then not be the time to create a national health system for America? I struggle to see why there would be an argument against setting one up if the system you have already is full of holes. The argument is based in ideology -- the belief that private systems are inherently superior to go...
