Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

Ok Ok I apologize and take back everything I said. We all have opinions and all actors have their unique fans. Far be it from me to take on the entire member list on this site. I will not do that. I do enjoy your opinions and comments and look forward to future discussions.

Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

Thank you for your replies. And yes I just wanted to see if anyone was reading what I said. You are so very right and I take back all that I said except that many actors do indeed play themselves in most of their movies. John Wayne was John Wayne in every movie and could never play a criminal or a p...

Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

I love this discussion. San Francisco is one of my favorite movies. I marveled at the production and special effects considering the year it was made. It was a very effective movie about that time and place. I would call it an Epic. The casting was excellent and Jeannette played her role very well. ...

Re: Musicals as a Genre

I agree with you about 7 for 7. It is absolutely a "musical". My definition would include the entire cast. If all on the scene burst into song and dance it is a musical. If only the stars perform then it is a movie with music. There are some exceptions and certainly some on the border. Hig...

Re: Musicals as a Genre

I love this thread. I sometimes get bored with the iconic musical movie. Oklahoma, West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, and countless others are musicals to me. The continuous break from the plot to stage a music and dance number can be distracting. On the other hand many of those styled movies had the ...

TCM - Singing In The Rain

TCM had Singing In The Rain on tonight. What a glorious wonderful musical. Debbie Reynolds really found herself in this movie. Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor were superb. A well spent evening.

Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

I know about the boxed set of Deanna Durbin Movies but what is still quetionable is whether those movies are re-mastered or not. TCM talked about the future re-mastering but when I wrote them they replied unsure. So no one knows if they will or not be upgraded. I pre-ordered the set but already own ...

You all are great in your comments. I enjoy hearing about your likes and dislikes and just as we are all different - so goes the Nation. We all have opinions and might disagree but we all like entertainment and that is the key. Many spoke of big big stars I have not mentioned and I surely do own DVD...

Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

Hi everyone and thanks for welcoming me into your group. I am a sucker for female singing stars. I do not think any male singer, no matter how good, carried a movie. I can take my singers I love the most and describe my passion for them: Deanna Durbin - She had a marvelous unwaving voice with power ...

Re: Kathryn Grayson Tribute

I am surprised by the lack of true tributary comments here. One of the most entertaining movies was "It Happened In Brooklyn". Kathryn Grayson was in great from in this rare B/W classic starring Kathryn, Frank Sinatra, Peter Lawford, Jimmy Durante. Grayson sang the Bell song from "Lak...

My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

I am a bit disappointed in my brief observation of the interests from this board. I think there are no greater stars than Deanna Durbin, Grace Moore, Jeanette MacDonald, Evelyn Laye, Kathryn Grayson, Jane Powell, and any other movie stars with great opera voices. I collect their movies and currently...
