Talk about sightings redux

I took some notes in prep for putting this info into the nearby "Talk About Sightings!" thread, but I changed my mind. It works better here. I was not impressed by the new HBO series John From Cincinnati and I did not watch it. Last week, simply by not changing channels while doing some ot...

The Simpsons Movie is a hoot-diddley! The ploy by which Homer regained Bart's loyalty after the boy decided that he wanted StupidFlanders to be his dad was LOL!! For any Simpsons fans -- wait for the rental DVD if you must, but it is worth your time. Thanks for the review. Is that plot from the mov...

Gone, Gone, Gone

I've interrupted a reading task started earlier this year for lack of time. I was going to reread John Le Carre's "Quest for Karla" trilogy and then enjoy again two recently acquired DVDs based on the triligy: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People . (I think I mourn the loss of ...

Pedro Armendariz

I spotted Pedro Armendariz last week in a replay of Fort Apache . Decided I owe him a mention because for years I did him an injustice. Having seen The Three Godfathers (the 1948 John Wayne version) at about age 9 and again in my early 20s, I had mistakenly credited Armendariz' work in that film to ...

Gonzales Gonzales

Recent sightings: Last night on Support Your Local Gunfighter and last week on The High And The Mighty . Gonzales Gonzales (1925-2006) had a career that lasted 1953-1998. Sometimes listed as Pedro Gonzales Gonzales, and about six other variations of that name. First gained attention as a contestent ...

Geo. Nader
I remember him being all over the TV in several guest spots, both Westerns and contemporary, and as I said, I'm almost sure he was in his own show for a short time, but cannot recall what it was - Does anyone out there recall? Anne
mrsl; Would that be Man And The Challange ...

Glenn Strange (Miss Kitty's "Sam the Longbranch bartender" of Gunsmoke ) did a lot of supporting-character work in 50s and 60s television. Two others that I always enjoyed spotting were Dub Taylor and Burt Mustin. Both are long gone now, but they were always an addition when they showed up.

Robert Osborne had an interesting factoid re Ms. Davis in the afterword to The High And The Mighty when it aired last week. He mentioned her as one of the people who had been approached about taking a role in that near-disaster flick. No-go, on the principal that she did not do ensemble acting. Too ...

"Shadow"

This one is totally unknown to me. I looked it up, and the issue date seems to have been when I was just getting used to a dorm environment. Getting to the nearby town with the two movie theatres involved either thumbing a ride, or waiting til the school sent a busload of us into town for some free ...

Re: ******THE TWO MISTER DESTRYS; CODA******

NOTE: THE REMAINDER OF THIS TOPIC NOW LOOKS LIKE I HAD A LONG DIALOGUE WITH MYSELF. THE FACT IS THAT FORMER OASIS MEMBER SHOLMES POSTED FREQUENTLY ON THIS TOPIC. UPON BEING DISMISSED AS A MEMBER, HE HAS APPEARENTLY COME BACK AND HAS DELEATED ALL HIS POSTINGS ON THIS SUBJECT. THAT'S WHY I, AND PERHAP...

Nitro

Klondike; Memories bestir memories. I remember an old Dragnet episode involving safe crackers. At one point Jack Webb, as Sgt. Friday, faced the camera head-on and gave one of his patented lectures-to-the-public. It concerned incidents of thieves boiling the nitro out of sticks of dinamite to use in...

its about the unforgiven, stupid

I'm glad of the added comments from Chris, Mike BSG and Klondike; it would be inappropriate for focus to be taken away from the movie itself just because I got diarrhea of the keyboard and devoted perhaps too much space to one of the performers. There are other people and other themes that could be ...

spatter and drip, spatter and drip

Sylvester Stallone and Carl Weathers in the first three Rocky movies. (My attention strayed after that.)
