Just saw on the news that Cheetah died this past weekend at the age of 80. Another star of Hollywood's golden age bites the dust.

Wow, Cheetah and Harry Morgan both surprised me by living so long. So of all the Tarzan family, he outlasted everyone or is Johnny Sheffield still around?

Unfortunately, Johnny Sheffield died last year in October. He reportedly fell off a ladder at age 79 while doing some work around his home. His widow said he really had the "Tarzan spirit" of Boy until the day he died. So I guess they are all swinging together again.

Miss Goddess, it seems that Johnny Sheffeid passed away on October 15 of 2010. He had a heart attack following a fall from a ladder.

I did enjoy all those Tarzan movies so much. There were so many Saturday mornings filled with the excitement of Tarzan and his mates. Cheetah, irascible as he was, outlived everyone of his costars.

I was lucky enough to meet Johnny Weissmuller in Louisiana in 1962 or 1963. He was promoting some real estate ventures in the area, and he was dressed like Jungle Jim. But I think my Mom was totally flustered when she actually met one of her idols. (I think I was just an excuse so she could get to meet Johnny Weissmuller. I remember the leopard hat band on his
khaki-colored chapeaux...)

In the early 70's on vacation in Los Angeles ... my family and I went to Knott's Berry Farm and Cheetah made an appearance there as part of a show that they put on. It was neat seeing it.

This is a fascinating and touching discussion about a monkey who touched many, many lives. 80 years old! These delightful adventures made Saturday TV such a pleasure. I never missed a Tarzan outing. Never met anyone who didn't love Cheetah. I only hope in some intangible way, this classic film star knew what an impact he made on the industry and its fans.

I love Cheetah too--even if he was a mischievous chimp. BTW, Maureen O'Sullivan wasn't on the best of terms with Cheetah at all times. According to a post on daughter Mia Farrow's Twitter account, “Cheetah the chimp in Tarzan movies died this week at 80. My mom, who played Jane, invariably referred to Cheetah as ‘that b******.’" In a later post Mia added that “he bit her at every opportunity.”

Actually, for every 1 year of chimpanzee is equal to 2 years of human.
