I'm so glad that you mentioned the Nutshell Library, Jacks. Here's that episode of The Colbert Report with Sendak, discussing the lack of work ethic in children, the boredom of talking about "Where the Wild Things Are II" with Vin Diesel and spreading his opposition to the treacle associated with children's lit!

Knitster--
Goob lives on in our hearts! I think we should make each other beanies and wear them around the house whenever we think of George Lindsay. Of course, we probably shouldn't answer the door wearing them, though, or we could get a reputation for eccentricity.

Hi,

British actress Joyce Redman has died at age 94.
She was nominated in 1963 & 1965 for Best Supporting Actress Oscars for "Tom Jones" and "Othello" respectively.

Recognized the name, but couldn't 'see' her...

Yes Nancy,

That's her...
She is best remembered for enjoying a rather lascivious chicken dinner with "Tom Jones" - Albert Finney.... Great scene!

So sad about Mort Lindsey, a very talented musician and bandleader... there was a short time when I was little that you couldn't turn on a program without hearing his name at the beginning of a show.

And Joyce Redman worked up until about ten years ago, she turned up in several TV series on Masterpiece Theatre that I saw, and also played Jet van Dieren in One of Our Aircraft is Missing. She was a very womanly presence, and seemed to have a 'delicious' sense of humor, at least if Tom Jones is any indication. :D

Hi,

Sad news today that Donna Summer has died at 63 - much too young...
Apparently, she battled lung cancer these past few years, but did not publicize her plight.

"The Disco Queen" was a very fine singer and a real beauty; not a screamer & manufactured entity that we must endure today......

R.I.P. Miss Summer

I heard the news about Donna Summer today and was so shocked.

It's silly but I like this eighties version of There Goes My Baby, it shows off her strong strong expressive voice.

Sorry to hear about Donna Summers' death.

I think my favorites of her songs were "Heaven Knows" and "Hot Stuff." Still, all her stuff was highly listenable.

I thought Donna Summer had a great voice, but an even better ear for a catchy musical phrase that still resonates--though I don't think that disco musicians got much respect from the rock establishment due to the studio-enhanced nature of their music (she still isn't in the Rock Hall of Fame, though she will be now). Still, it's hard to keep my feet still when I hear some of these songs now, especially when Summer sang them. Reportedly, she got the idea for this anthem when she noticed the patient, hardworking bathroom attendant in the lavatory during a Grammy party.

She seems far too young doesn't she? I was shocked by the news, I've loved her disco music.
