Once called "The most dangerous man in America," Abraham Polonsky only directed two films. 1948's Force of Evil (also showing tonight) with it's themes of corruption, put his career on hiatus when he was blacklisted by the HUAAC. In exile, he continued to write screenplays (including the brilliant Odds Against Tomorrow [1959]), but Tell Them Willie Boy is Here released in the late sixties, marked his only return to the directors chair.
A western, dealing with similar racial themes as "Odds" and sophomore hit Body and Soul (1947), Polonsky as always explores the heart of mankind and how their choices create the society in which they live. His tales are often dark, but it's in these settings that his heroes discover themselves and find their way back into the light.
