Oh, I can't wait to see that one... I've now seen Murder My Sweet, Cornered, both of which I love, and this one makes the third noir by Powell. I missed it the last time it was on.

You won't be disappointed (I hope). Powell's character is rather complex, as is the movie---even the ending is not altogether wrapped with a bow. I was very impressed.

Powell can do no wrong in the "dark city" as far as I'm concerned, I love his noirs.

Naw, I am sure I'm going to like it. He's just got a very human way about him in noir, and that wry tone which fits the genre like a glove. I'm with you, he can do no wrong in the 'dark city'. Love that phrase! :D

I also recommend CRY DANGER, RIGHT CROSS and JOHNNY O'CLOCK.

I've seen part of Johnny O'Clock, which just made me want to see the rest of it even more. The others I didn't know about... thanks!

Cry Dangerwas shown at the TCMFF, and it was a wonderful, pristine print. Rhonda Fleming and Eddie Muller introduced it, and Fleming enjoyed making the film even though her father had passed right around that time, and then she had a life-threatening attack of appendicitis and had to have an appendectomy. She discussed how absolutely driven Powell was in his creative/financial projects.

What is so stunning about the film is it's preservation of how LA looked at the time, and also a small triumph for character actor Richard Erdman, who has a nice, meaty little role, and William Conrad as the evil menace.

I thought so - and I was scratching my head earlier today and you are right on the nose! ... I loved it. :)
