Alexa,

TCM took a great deal of flack, especially on their own message boards, for running The Story of Film- once the series focused on the 1960s forward, some of the posters seem to lose their collective senses-so it is great to see you guys rewarded for airing the series and allowing viewers to see that the history of film is more than the history of American film.

Congrats!

Dear Mr. Larry

You are the most gracious host. I think you are a true gentleman. Musso and Franks was so much fun, and the cameo by Mary Carlisle was delightful.

We are all back in the office now staring at expense reports and wondering what the hell just happened.

Thanks to Joanne Woodward (you know who you are) king rat, lynn, sue sue, sam, john. What a fun group.

Erik-

at the Ask Robert (or Bob) interview, we were all told by Jeff Gregor that Robert may have his job as long as he wants it.

Dear Masha

I think everyone here is too exhausted to think about that yet due to the Film Festival.
But don't you worry-----the TCM marketing dept will get on it soon.

thanks.

Hi Alexa--
Please take your time replying to this query--I imagine you all need a vacation after the TCMCFF--but in anticipation of the upcoming airing tonight of one of my favorite (relatively) early John Wayne movies, The Shepherd of the Hills (1941), I wondered if you were the researcher or author of the great What a Character! interstitial about Beulah Bondi, who created one of her best (and flintiest) portrayals in that Henry Hathaway film?

Also, I realize that budgets are always tight, but is there any chance that the series of character actor profiles spotlighted in What a Character! might be continued some day? Thanks in advance for any info you can share. And get some rest, will ya?

Hi Alexa,

Can I put my 2 cents worth in and suggest Gina Lollobridgida as a legend to invite next year....
I'm sure Robert would enjoy interviewing her, and she is a most gracious lady.

Yes Miz Moira

I did that piece on the great Beulah Bondi.
I am older now that she was when she played 80 years!!!
I hope that franchise - sorry workspeak - will be started again one day.

Thanks for noticing - she was always good - and could play sweet or mean like so many of our wonderful character actors.

You should be so proud of that--as well as each of these beloved interstitials aired occasionally. Funny, but I never tire of seeing this one, or the ones devoted to Hattie McDaniel, Edna May Oliver or Guy Kibbee. Hope to see this "franchise" continued someday for the likes of Alan Hale, Sr., Joyce Compton, Roscoe Karns, Una O'Connor, Spring Byington and so many more from that golden age, when, for a few decades, some of the greatest supporting players alive gathered in one spot and helped to make mere movies into classics.
