150 titles with many more promised. Alas they are $20, and only are available in the US. But still this is a gleam of hope for the future.

I mean The Beast of The City on DVD is something I've been waiting for awhile now, plus there's some Cukors, Vidors, silents and even a couple Marion Davies films (The Red Mill & Cain and Mabel).

Hopefully some other retailers sell these.

It's an impressive list of films, overall. Among them are several Norma Shearer vehicles that I was beginning to write off as lost causes. And my heart almost stopped to see Marie Dressler's Emma (1932).

I continue to believe that even though it's played a couple times on cable and even on Warner on Demand, we will never see a widescreen DVD release of The Dark at the Top of the Stairs (1960). TCM played it ages ago, when the channel was first launched, and AMC even listed it on their schedule when they were still a worthwhile station, but no station has aired it in widescreen for more than ten years.

There's so many I fancy, mainly with Gable partnered by Marion Davies, Joan Crawford and Myrna Loy. Also it's great to see the silents on the list, I think I saw most of Greta's silents and a few others. Yippee.

Thanks to Filmlover's notice and explanation about Warner's decision, found here, and the following list from Calvinnme of the TCM Message Board, the following is a complete list of the films being offered via the WB Archive at present. The site where they list these is best navigated with Firefox, but is still rather unwieldy to navigate, so I thought that it might help to see the list as it currently stands. Many of these are only currently available on OOP vhs or dvd-rs from broadcast versions. Btw, at present, it appears that these movies can only be sent to U.S. addresses.

It's also my understanding that the DVD's are in fact DVD-R's, ala the Lost RKO set put out by TCM.

Oh and When Ladies Meet is the 1941 version.

Is it true? The lost RKO Collection is comprised of DVD-Rs? I thought it were regular DVDs. And all these goodies offered by Warners are DVD-Rs? I'm glad they are being sold and put on the market, but I won't pay 20 dollars for DVD-Rs.

They are being pressed and shipped by a third-party distributor so these aren't
your typical commercially manufactured DVDs. I have ordered one to see what
it's like and if its worth getting more. I'll post my "review" when it arrives.

According to the articles and Warners' site, you can only order these for purchase
through their website and only for shipping to U.S. addresses, as Moira said. Maybe this will
open up if they do brisker than expected sales. The press release also indicated
they would be releasing as many as twenty additional titles each month to about
300 by the end of the year. So keep checking the site for updates. I'm hoping
for some Gary Cooper titles like THE HANGING TREE, finally, though I'd prefer
a first class commercial release, of course.

If this venture does well, perhaps Fox will follow suit with their archive of movies
they don't wish to splurge on commercial release.

The Crowd, The Big Parade and The Wind will make into DVD in the Photoplay Production edition. Yes!!!
