The Silver Screen Oasis

The footage of the Robin Hood outtakes is part of the two-disc DVD of The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) that came out in 2003 and can be had for less than $6 brand new. It is one of the best discs with extra features that I have ever seen and well worth owning. Not only do you get to have one of the best movies ever made at home in nearly pristine condition, but you can stop to marvel at the work of the crew, esp. the two directors, the costumes, the stunt people, and the actors behind the scenes any time you wish.

Wonderful stuff and sadly, not likely to be made again so well since DVDs of classics are not made with as much care as they once were.

FYI: This is just a suggestion and you are welcome to post youtube connections any way you would like, but perhaps this could be of help to someone...

The "https:" that now appears in front of links found on many youtube videos indicates that you are logged in on youtube when you are trying to copy and paste that link here.

If you would like to post links from youtube here and allow members to view the video here on the SSO, you can access the http: version of the youtube video by:
1.) removing the "s" from http and then highlighting the link and clicking on the youtube button on the right at the top of your message box. Or...
2.) logging out of your youtube account and then accessing the video you are looking for anonymously, and copying the link without the https

When you post it here it would then look like this:

Not logged into youtube or with "s" removed from "http":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaRFgY0lJ5c

Logged into youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaRFgY0lJ5c

Thanks for the info Moira, I was wondering how that worked. Who would have thought an "s" could make all the difference.

Have you every considered creating a FAQS section for information like this? I know there's a Help section, but finding answers to simple questions would be easier that way.

Yup. Good idea, Lucky. Though this has been mentioned a few times in the past, as in the link below, maybe I'll figure out a way to post a FAQ section separate from other queries and comments in such sections as Site Talk, Registering as a New User, and Help! areas.

Should have known you were way ahead of me. A separate area within Registration and Rules would be the easiest place for new arrivals to spot it, maybe renaming the area as Registration, FAQs and Rules. Come to think if it, some of the items under "Registration" would probably fit in a FAQ section. Since each topic would be the question,the list would be easy to look through, as long as the questions didn't need more than one page to list, which would seem to be the case.

A great post! Thanks for sharing it. I had to watch twice just to count my "successes." I've always considered myself film aware, especially of the Oscar winners, but I'm afraid I couldn't come up with a passing grade. (At least there's one that EVERYONE can get - I mean, of course, the Grand Hotel ending, wihich actually spells out the name.)

I have been able to add up-to-date phpbb code to the SSO to allow the posting of videos from Youtube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion. Having this many ways of posting videos is a new experiment for us. If you run into any technical issues, please let the admins know right away by PM or email. As always the Code of Conduct agreed to by all members applies to all postings, so please bear this in mind when adding a video here. Also, posting many videos at once will make a page load much more slowly (even with Broadband Internet connections.

Here is how this feature should be used for each video sharing site. The example shown is for youtube, but the same exact information applies to each video sharing site.

Please Note: For a video to show up here, please use videos with the http at the beginning. Videos with https at the beginning will only appear as links.

Take as an example, this URL address from youtube, which you could copy and paste into the posting screen as shown below:



Then you would highlight the URL and click on the button above the posting space on the right that says youtube to create the link that will embed the video and enable others to view it here without going to youtube.



After you click on the youtube button, you will see the URL bracketed as it appears here:



After this, you would click on Preview and, if everything looks okay to you, then click on Submit and your video will appear in your post.

Here are how the videos from Youtube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion will appear on The Silver Screen Oasis...and yes, all these videos have something to do with Frank Borzage BTW, I don't recommend posting videos from three different sources in one post generally, since it will slow down the loading time for many connections:
