Hi,

February 6, 1952:
On this date, upon the death of King George VI, his daughter Elizabeth II became the first Queen Regnant of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Realms since Queen Victoria...

The Queen has now reigned for 62 years...

Gosh, Erik, I hope that this might be good news, but a Google search seems to indicate that this may be speculation in the tabloids since it does not appear to have been widely confirmed by other sources. Perhaps it will be clearer in the next few days.

Hi,

Please Erik, don't get your hopes up. Until the official word comes out of Buckingham Palace, all other reports are speculation or out-&-out lies...

The Cambridges didn't announce or even know the gender of their first child until Prince George peeped out; so announcing a girl child would be my first clue that this is just press hype.

However, I do hope it's true!!!

Until then, I have to wait for the official word from Buckingham Palace to confirm whether she is pregnant or not? I know you are right but it's frustrates me that you have to wait, wait, wait, wait, and wait for the OFFICIAL WORD of the status of her pregnancy!

Hi,

For those who are interested:

King Juan Carlos I of Spain has abdicated and his son will become the new monarch.
Crown Prince Filipe, Prince of Asturias will become King Filipe (Philip) VI, and his wife will be Queen Letitia.

I was a bit taken aback by his frail appearance when he resigned. The scandals surrounding poor Spain's financial status and his going off to hunt as well as Father Time all seem to have caught up with him suddenly. I hope that the Spanish remember how essential a role that Juan Carlos played in their transition from fascism to a freer society.

Best of luck to King Felipe VI and his Queen.

In other royal action, Prince George is raring to go, learning to walk just in time for his upcoming first birthday, based on this picture taken of him at his father's polo match yesterday. Hang on, Kate--he's off and running.

My GOSH, can you GET more beautiful than those two little girls faces? What does their mother, the future Queen look like?

It looks like Prince William is giving those old castle halls a good run for their money. Looks like he's being allowed a little more freedom than his daddy and uncle were - they were always in carriages or strollers as I remember.

The Prince and Princess of Asturias.

Here's a background article on the former Letizia Ortiz: commoner, previously-married (divorced), and former television journalist.

Prof. Tourist:

Thanks for the photo, I can see why the kids are so adorable, but . . . next question; Where and what is Asturias? Is it part of Australia, Austria, or completely removed from either of those?

Thanks again.

Asturias is a principality and province in the north of Spain. You can read more about it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asturias

As in Britain where the heir to the throne is made Prince of Wales, in Spain the heir to the throne is made Prince of Asturias:

Thanks again friend:
So . . . . . . as England is a part of Britain, or Illinois is part of the U.S.A., Asturias is a part of Spain. I think she's got-it!
