Conflicting Birds

Post by Moraldo Rubini »

Anyone seen Conflict? I saw this Film Noir last night at San Francisco's Castro Theatre. The film was made in 1942, but due to a legal dispute wasn't released until 1945. It stars Humphrey Bogart as a man who murders his wife and then wonders if he's going mad. But here's what I'm wondering about... I probably wouldn't have noticed this if I were watching it on my TV screen, but there was a detail that I noticed on the Castro's big silver screen: there's a scene when Bogie goes to a detective's office. The camera angle is low and skewed (in the best Noir tradition) and as we look up at Bogie, I noticed something atop the files behind him -- it looked like the Maltese Falcon was there.

Is this possible?
