One would think that people would talk about the greatest murders on film? But what about the greatest suicides? Here are three to start with:

[Spoiler Alert!]

Klaus Maria Brandauer in Colonel Redl (1985) is arguably the greatest of all time.

Katina Paxinou as Mrs. Melandez in Confidential Agent (1945). One of the great evil characters, she takes poison when she realizes she's been found out.

Agnes Moorehead throwing herself out the window when incriminated in Dark Passage (1947)

Mia Farrow whipping out her gun, killing lover/fellow killer Simon MacCorkindale before shooting herself in the head in front of Peter Ustinov, Bette Davis, David Niven, Maggie Smith, Jack Warden, Olivia Hussey, George Kennedy and company in Death on the Nile (1978)

For what I understand Moorehead jumped to her death to incriminate Bogart. The suicide scene in the French film Noyade interdite from 1987 was remade in the Thelma & Louise movie.

As for suicide on film, I don't know that the scene itself is visually great or well-acted, but there's a suicide in The Big Heat that really drives the plot.

Brooks from The Shawshank Redemption.

A Star is Born: Both Fredric March and James Mason each in their own way, but I give the edge to James Mason.

If you watched the closing remarks by Eddie last Sat night, he said that the David Goodis novel has Madge jump out the window but because of the code at that time, suicide was not permitted in a film so that it was filmed as an accident not suicide.
