Judith, thanks for the info about Katharine Hepburn's mirror. She would do something like that.
You were fortunate to see the exceptional Maureen Stapleton live on the stage. Always enjoyed her on film.

Moira, I too got the heebie-jeebies when I saw that image of Ruth Etting.
Makes me wonder why men were fighting over her. Hmmm.

Klondike, I can't recall if that marquee was exposed in "The Seven Year Itch". Perhaps one of the board members can shed some light on it.

Larry, that was funny about Audrey Hepburn's mom and the coat rack.

That's a very racy picture of Ruth Etting, I can't remember Doris striking that pose in the film

CCfan, In 1955 the movie code was still strict and I doubt that Doris Day would have allowed her boobs to hang out.

It would have shattered the wholesome image.

This reminds me of that line from Oscar Levant, who worked with Doris in her first hit Romance On the High Seas (1948):

"I can remember Doris Day before she was a virgin."

Moira, I've heard that line before although it's still funny and so is the underrated Oscar Levant. What a nut case!

Anne Bancroft's beautiful stone brought tears to my eyes...there's nothing like a tragic angel.

And Myrna in a tux? I believe you, but I almost thought it looked more like Kay.

Thanks for the great fun.

Hey Mongo,

love the Myrna/Tux pic, never seen it before. She's no Hep, but I appreciate the effort.

Oooh and there was a great pic of Jean Simmons and Cary Grant earlier, very sharp, more Jean please.

Larry, I believe I could accept Marie Dessler wearing a pillowcase.

Birdy, I thank you. The tragic angel also touched my heart. It's befitting for such a person as Anne Bancroft was in real life.

Myrnaloy, I've posted other Jean Simmons images with more to come.
I was also surprised to see Myrna Loy in such an outfit.

CCfan, most of us agree with you about Buster Keaton. He is, after all, a legend.

Gee, Mongo,
Is that lady in that great picture with Durante the legendary Mrs. Calabash?

Image
Is it just me, or does Judith look a little stoned in the corner of that Hitchcock-Fontaine photo?

Thanks so much for gathering these. They are very entertaining.

Thank you, Moira.

I doubt that the lady floating around Durante is his Mrs. Calabash.

I would say that Miss Anderson had a little too much of the bubbly. Good for her.

Hi,

The picture of Jean Simmons, Stewart Granger, Deborah Kerr & Norma Shearer was taken at the party following the premier of "Young Bess"...
If the photo was/is expanded to the right, you would see Charles Laughton and Elaine Stewart also.
Miss Shearer had a hand in producing this film.

And yes, dear Judith Anderson does look like she's an advertisement for "Reefer Madness" with that cigarette in her hand!!

Keep these wonderful photos coming, Bill. I love looking at them.

Two things:

Miguelito Vades (the one holding the chicken in the photo with Carmen Miranda) was the primary male singer with Cugat's orchestra in the 40s and 50s, and was the one who popularized the song "Babalu" in the Hispanic community. That song was taken up by Cugat's secondary male band singer, Desi Arnaz, when he formed his own orchestra, and the rest is history. Valdes was still performing when I was a young woman, and his concerts were advertised on Spanish-language TV in New York, where he was always called "El Simpatico Senor Babalu" (The Nice/Friendly/Charming Mr. Babalu).

The photo of Bela Lugosi, looking so young and healthy, looks just like his son, Bela Jr., who is called Bill, and who is (or at least was) an entertainment lawyer in LA.
