I consider Mary Astor very elegance, sophisticated, charming, and talented actress that made a great transition from silent movies to talkies. She is very attractive and has a very formal approach to acting. I seen some of her (about a dozen or so) films and every time I seen them - I have no favorites because I love them all dearly.

I certainly don't mean to offend anyone's preference on this forum. Just for myself I never found Miss Astor to my liking. And I never said I find Madonna attractive, either. Just enjoy some of her songs.

Maybe Mary Astor should have her own thread. I like her a lot and think she was a very good actress and very attractive.
Her performance in THE GREAT LIE comes to mind. So good as the concert pianist , she and Bette Davis were terrific and Mary won a Best Supporting Oscar.
Of course she costarred with Bogart in THE MALTESE FALCON.
She made 153 films including many Silents.
Mary was Judy Garland's mother in MEET ME IN ST LOUIS and she also played that role to Margaret O''Brien and June Allyson in LITTLE WOMEN.
In some later films, she may have had smaller roles but you always remembered her. I'm thinking of ACT OF VIOLENCE in which she only has one scene with Van Heflin and in ANY NUMBER CAN PLAY ,a couple of scenes with Clark Gable.
She also did lots of Tv in the 50s.
I love her real name, LUCILLE LANGHANKE.

Thanks PT for the great photo of Agnes - I love to see smiling pictures of her, the way she went through life - charming.

Although when first viewing this, I wondered if her hat was compeating with Dewey Martins hair in the Birthdays today!!!!!

Does anyone know whatever became of Dewey Martin? He was a fine actor who appeared in some good films in the 50s: THE THING, THE DESPERATE HOURS. I know that Bogart took a liking to Dewey and often took him along on his weekend sailing excursions. The last I recall seeing of him was in some family adventure movie, where, as the father, he dies along the journey.

Stone, Dewey Martin was last seen on a TV show in 1978. Not reaching star status he simply walked away. Was quoted as saying he doesn't wish to discuss his Hollywood career. He didn't attend those autograph events either.
Where ever he is I hope he is happy and well.

Thanks for the update, Joe. Wow, seems like a too-sudden disappearance. And to not want to discuss his Hollywood years gives the suggestion that he might be somewhat bitter. I always like him and, as with you, Joe, hope he`s doing well wherever he is.

BTW: Great shot of Carradine! Wonder if he ever regretted pursuing art as a career. Cagney often alluded to that fact.
